Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Perform thorough diagnostics and troubleshooting on a full spectrum of kitchen appliances, including refrigerators, freezers, ice makers, ranges, ovens, cooktops, dishwashers, and microwaves from various manufacturers.
  • Execute precise and lasting repairs on customer appliances, utilizing manufacturer-approved parts and procedures to restore them to full operational status.
  • Interpret complex technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics to effectively identify faults and determine the correct repair strategy.
  • Expertly handle sealed system repairs, including diagnosing refrigerant leaks, evacuating, and recharging systems in compliance with EPA regulations.
  • Provide customers with detailed, clear explanations of the diagnosis, the required repairs, and an accurate estimate for parts and labor.
  • Utilize company-provided technology, such as tablets or laptops, to document service calls, manage work orders, order parts, and process payments.
  • Educate customers on the proper use, care, and preventative maintenance for their kitchen appliances to enhance longevity and prevent future service calls.
  • Drive a company-provided service vehicle safely and professionally to and from customer locations within a designated service area.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and personal appearance, ensuring a positive brand image during every customer interaction.
  • Communicate effectively with the dispatch team and service manager regarding job status, challenges, and scheduling adjustments.
  • Adhere to all company and industry safety standards and protocols, ensuring a safe work environment for yourself and the customer.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, moving, and maneuvering heavy appliances, often within confined spaces.
  • Accurately diagnose and repair issues related to electronic control boards, sensors, motors, and other complex electromechanical components.
  • Ensure that the customer's home is respected and left in a clean and orderly condition upon completion of the service call.

Secondary Functions

  • Maintain and manage an organized truck stock inventory, ensuring essential parts are readily available to maximize first-call completion rates.
  • Identify and present opportunities for customers to purchase extended service agreements or maintenance plans.
  • Provide valuable feedback to the management and technical support teams regarding common product failures and potential service improvements.
  • Participate in and complete ongoing factory-sponsored and in-house training to stay current with emerging technologies and new appliance models.
  • When a repair is not economically viable, advise the customer on replacement options and provide professional recommendations.
  • Assist in mentoring and training junior technicians, sharing knowledge and best practices for diagnostics and repair.
  • Consistently achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) such as first-time fix rate, customer satisfaction scores, and service-to-sales conversion.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Advanced Diagnostics: Proven ability to systematically troubleshoot and accurately diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and sealed system issues.
  • Sealed System Expertise: Proficiency in refrigeration theory and hands-on sealed system repair, including brazing, evacuation, and charging. EPA 608 Universal Certification is highly preferred.
  • Component-Level Repair: Skill in repairing or replacing a wide range of components, such as compressors, motors, electronic control boards, heating elements, and water valves.
  • Technical Literacy: Ability to proficiently read, understand, and apply information from technical manuals, service bulletins, and wiring schematics.
  • Tool Proficiency: Competent use of diagnostic tools including multimeters, clamp meters, refrigerant gauges, and leak detectors.
  • Digital Competence: Comfortable using mobile applications on a tablet or smartphone for scheduling, parts lookup, invoicing, and communication.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid State Driver's License with a clean driving record.

Preferred Education:

  • Certificate or Associate's Degree from a vocational or technical school in Appliance Repair, HVAC/R, or Electronics Technology.
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification.
  • Manufacturer-specific training certifications (e.g., Whirlpool, GE, Samsung, Bosch, Sub-Zero).

Experience Requirements

  • Experience servicing high-end and luxury brands (e.g., Sub-Zero, Wolf, Miele, Thermador).
  • Experience in a role that involved upselling service plans or products.
