Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Assist senior technicians in diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration faults on refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, ovens, ranges, and built-in appliances using standard diagnostic tools and manufacturer troubleshooting guides.
  • Perform basic repairs and parts replacement under supervision, including replacing seals, thermostats, water valves, pumps, motors, switches, igniters, heating elements, and control boards while following manufacturer instructions.
  • Help complete appliance installations and set-ups for new equipment, including leveling, connecting water lines, hooking up gas or electrical connections to code, calibrating controls, and verifying correct operation.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance visits, including cleaning condenser coils, checking door gaskets, inspecting hoses and filters, testing safety devices, and advising customers on proper appliance care to extend product life.
  • Support troubleshooting and repair of refrigeration systems, assisting with leak detection, compressor checks, evaporator and condenser evaluation, refrigerant line inspection, and safe handling of refrigerants under EPA guidelines.
  • Use handheld meters, clamp ammeters, multimeters, thermometers, and pressure gauges to perform diagnostic checks and to verify system voltages, continuity, and current draw as directed by lead technicians.
  • Load, unload, and transport appliances, parts, and tools safely between storage, shop, and customer locations; secure cargo and follow company vehicle use and safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate service records, parts usage logs, and digital job reports in the company’s service management system, ensuring timely updates, repair descriptions, and customer signatures.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers on-site to explain diagnostic findings, repair options, cost estimates, warranty coverage, and preventative maintenance recommendations.
  • Follow safety protocols including lockout/tagout procedures, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe ladder and scaffold use, and adherence to gas, electrical, and refrigerant safety standards.
  • Assist with warranty claim documentation, parts ordering, and return authorization processes, ensuring parts are tracked and correctly billed or replaced per manufacturer warranty policies.
  • Aid in on-the-job training by shadowing senior technicians, taking technical notes, and participating in structured learning modules to build independent diagnostic and repair capabilities.
  • Troubleshoot basic plumbing connections for dishwashers and ice makers, including checking water pressure, unclogging drains, replacing hoses, and testing fill valves for correct operation.
  • Support gas appliance service tasks by assisting with burner alignment, pilot assembly inspections, leak testing of gas lines using approved methods, and verifying safe combustion where applicable.
  • Help inventory and organize parts, tools, and supplies in the service vehicle and warehouse; ensure parts kits are stocked for common repairs and notify supervisors when specialized items are required.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and diagnose problems quickly under supervision, prioritizing safety and continuity of kitchen operations for commercial or high-priority residential accounts.
  • Assist with appliance teardown and teardown inspections for salvage, refurbishment, or recycling projects, documenting component condition and disposition per company policy.
  • Participate in route planning and scheduling with dispatch to maximize efficiency, report delays or additional customer requests, and help adjust the day’s workload as directed.
  • Support compliance activities, including proper disposal of refrigerants and electronic components, maintaining hazardous materials logs, and following environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by reporting recurring faults, feedback on common design or installation issues, and suggesting changes to preventive maintenance checklists or technician kits.
  • Help prepare and present job close-out summaries to customers, including demonstrating repaired functions, leaving care instructions, and obtaining final acceptance signatures.
  • Assist with quality assurance inspections by following checklists to verify completed repairs meet manufacturer tolerances and company standards before leaving the job site.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
