Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive in-home or showroom consultations to thoroughly understand client needs, lifestyle, aesthetic preferences, and budgetary constraints.
  • Develop innovative, functional, and aesthetically pleasing kitchen layouts using specialized design software like 2020 Design, Cabinet Vision, or AutoCAD.
  • Create detailed and accurate design packages, including floor plans, elevations, 3D color renderings, and dimensioned drawings for client presentation and installer use.
  • Guide clients through the entire material selection process, providing expert advice on cabinet styles, finishes, wood species, countertops, hardware, and accessories.
  • Perform precise on-site measurements of existing spaces, noting all architectural details, plumbing, and electrical placements to ensure flawless design integration.
  • Prepare and present detailed project proposals, itemized quotes, and contracts that clearly outline the scope of work, product specifications, and total investment.
  • Manage the client relationship throughout the project lifecycle, serving as the main point of contact to answer questions, provide updates, and manage expectations.
  • Collaborate closely with installers, contractors, and project managers to ensure the design intent is executed accurately and to address any on-site challenges that may arise.
  • Review and verify all order acknowledgements from suppliers and manufacturers for accuracy before production begins to prevent costly errors.
  • Stay current with the latest kitchen design trends, materials, technology, and building codes to provide clients with modern, compliant, and forward-thinking solutions.
  • Achieve and exceed defined sales goals and targets while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction and positive reviews.
  • Process sales transactions accurately, including deposits, progress payments, and final payments, ensuring all paperwork is completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a well-organized and detailed project file for each client, documenting all selections, communications, and revisions.
  • Conduct final project walk-throughs with clients and installers to ensure the finished product meets the approved design specifications and quality standards.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in maintaining the appearance and organization of the design showroom, ensuring samples are current and displays are clean and inspiring.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, and trade partners (contractors, architects, builders) to foster a reliable professional network.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Certification from the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA), such as Associate Kitchen & Bath Designer (AKBD) or Certified Kitchen & Bath Designer (CKBD), is highly desirable.
