Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Meticulously interpret complex architectural drawings, blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches to fully understand project scope and specifications.
  • Skillfully operate a comprehensive range of stationary and handheld woodworking tools, including table saws, mitre saws, band saws, jointers, planers, routers, and CNC machinery.
  • Fabricate and assemble high-quality custom kitchen cabinets, islands, vanities, pantries, and other bespoke wooden fixtures according to precise standards.
  • Select, grade, and prepare appropriate wood species, veneers, and composite materials based on project design, durability requirements, and aesthetic goals.
  • Perform highly accurate measurements, calculations, and layouts to generate detailed cut lists and ensure all components fit together flawlessly.
  • Execute a variety of advanced joinery techniques, such as mortise and tenon, dovetails, and pocket-hole joinery, to ensure structural integrity and a premium finish.
  • Expertly install custom and semi-custom cabinetry, crown moulding, light valances, and trim on-site, scribing to uneven walls and floors for a seamless, built-in appearance.
  • Apply a range of professional-grade finishes, including stains, paints, lacquers, and conversion varnishes, to achieve the desired color, sheen, and durability.
  • Perform critical on-site adjustments, modifications, and problem-solving to overcome unforeseen challenges and ensure a perfect final fit.
  • Collaborate effectively with interior designers, project managers, contractors, and clients to translate conceptual ideas into tangible, high-quality results.
  • Manage project timelines by efficiently planning fabrication and installation sequences to meet deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Disassemble and carefully remove old cabinetry and fixtures as required, preparing the workspace for new installations while protecting the surrounding areas.
  • Install and adjust all associated hardware, including concealed hinges, drawer slides, pulls, knobs, and specialized storage solutions.
  • Construct custom jigs, fixtures, and templates as necessary to ensure accuracy, repeatability, and efficiency in the production process.
  • Conduct quality control checks at every stage of fabrication and installation to guarantee the final product is free of defects and meets the highest standards of craftsmanship.
  • Uphold and champion all workplace health and safety protocols, maintaining a secure and hazard-free environment in both the workshop and on the client's site.
  • Troubleshoot and skillfully repair or restore existing cabinetry, addressing issues like damage, wear, or faulty hardware to extend the life of the installation.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment in peak working condition through regular cleaning, sharpening, calibration, and preventative maintenance.
  • Create detailed material take-offs from project plans to optimize material usage, minimize waste, and ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide outstanding customer service during on-site work, maintaining a clean, organized job site and communicating professionally with clients.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Completion of a formal Carpentry or Cabinetmaking Apprenticeship program.
