Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Actively assist senior technicians in the comprehensive diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of commercial kitchen equipment, including ovens, fryers, grills, dishwashers, and refrigeration units.
- Perform routine and scheduled preventative maintenance procedures, such as cleaning coils, lubricating moving parts, and calibrating thermostats, to ensure optimal equipment performance and longevity.
- Diligently transport tools, replacement parts, and necessary supplies between the workshop, service vehicles, and client sites, ensuring all items are accounted for and properly secured.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, both in the repair shop and at customer locations, by cleaning up debris, spills, and tools after each job.
- Execute basic mechanical and electrical repairs on kitchen appliances under the direct supervision and guidance of an experienced mechanic, learning proper techniques and safety standards.
- Learn to accurately read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and electrical/refrigeration schematics to understand equipment operation and repair procedures.
- Assist in the careful installation of new kitchen equipment, including uncrating, positioning, connecting utilities (gas, water, electric), and performing initial start-up tests.
- Proactively identify and report any observed equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or potential issues to the lead technician for further assessment and action.
- Accurately document all maintenance activities, service calls, and parts used on work orders and in digital maintenance logs to maintain a detailed service history for each asset.
- Safely handle and manage various refrigerants and chemicals in compliance with EPA regulations and company safety protocols, under the guidance of a certified technician.
- Prepare and stage all necessary tools, parts, and personal protective equipment (PPE) required for upcoming service calls to improve on-site efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and management to gather information about equipment problems and to provide status updates on repair progress.
- Assist in managing the inventory of spare parts and supplies on the service vehicle and in the workshop, reporting low stock levels for reordering.
- Utilize hand and power tools safely and effectively, maintaining them in good working condition and reporting any defects or needs for repair.
- Support the decommissioning and removal of old or irreparable kitchen equipment from client sites in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
- Participate in ongoing on-the-job training sessions and formal training programs to continuously develop technical skills and knowledge of new equipment and technologies.
- Adhere strictly to all company and client safety policies, including lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, to prevent accidents and injuries.
