Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Assist senior technicians in the troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of a diverse range of commercial kitchen equipment, including gas, steam, and electric ovens, fryers, grills, steamers, refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance tasks as directed, such as cleaning components, lubricating moving parts, calibrating controls, and replacing worn-out items like gaskets and filters to minimize downtime.
  • Safely gather, transport, and account for all necessary tools, replacement parts, and diagnostic equipment required for service calls at various client locations.
  • Actively participate in the disassembly and reassembly of complex machinery to access and replace faulty components, such as motors, pumps, heating elements, control boards, and switches.
  • Learn to accurately read and interpret technical manuals, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams to understand equipment functionality and execute precise repairs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, both in the service vehicle and on the customer's premises, ensuring all debris is removed post-service.
  • Develop proficiency in using a wide variety of hand and power tools, multimeters, and other diagnostic instruments under the supervision of an experienced technician.
  • Meticulously document all service activities, including detailed descriptions of work performed, time logged, and parts used, on digital or paper work orders for accurate billing and service history.
  • Professionally communicate with kitchen managers and staff to gather crucial information about equipment malfunctions and provide clear, concise updates on the status of repairs.
  • Adhere rigorously to all company and industry safety protocols, including proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and consistently wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Help identify and catalog required replacement parts, reporting needs to the lead technician or parts coordinator to ensure efficient ordering and inventory management.
  • Provide hands-on support during the installation, setup, and commissioning of new kitchen equipment, ensuring it aligns with manufacturer specifications and client needs.
  • Conduct basic testing and adjustments for water-connected equipment like dish machines and ice makers to ensure proper operation and prevent scale buildup.
  • Absorb and apply fundamental knowledge of electrical theory, plumbing systems, and refrigeration principles as they pertain to commercial food service equipment.
  • Travel with technicians to various customer sites to respond to both scheduled maintenance and urgent, unscheduled service calls in a timely and professional manner.

Secondary Functions

  • Manage and organize the inventory of common spare parts, tools, and essential supplies kept within the service vehicle or workshop to ensure readiness for any job.
  • Actively participate in ongoing in-house and manufacturer-provided training sessions to stay current with new equipment technologies and advanced repair techniques.
  • After a repair, provide a brief, clear overview of the work completed and demonstrate proper equipment operation to kitchen staff to help prevent future issues.
  • Assist in the general upkeep and maintenance of the company service vehicle, including ensuring it is clean, fueled, and ready for service.

  • Mechanical Aptitude: A natural ability to understand how mechanical systems work and a proficiency in using various hand and power tools.
  • Basic Electrical Knowledge: Foundational understanding of AC/DC circuits, voltage, and continuity testing using a multimeter.

Educational Background
