Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Assist senior technicians in the diagnosis and troubleshooting of electrical, gas, and steam-powered commercial kitchen equipment, including ovens, fryers, ranges, and grills.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, lubricating, calibrating, and inspecting equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Learn to accurately read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics to understand equipment operation and repair procedures.
- Actively participate in the hands-on repair of commercial dishwashers, disposals, and warewashing systems, addressing both mechanical and plumbing-related issues.
- Support the installation and commissioning of new kitchen equipment, ensuring it is set up according to manufacturer specifications and local codes.
- Shadow experienced technicians on service calls to develop effective customer communication skills and learn to manage on-site repair logistics.
- Gain proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing commercial refrigeration systems, including walk-in coolers, freezers, reach-ins, and ice machines under supervision.
- Practice safe work habits at all times, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures.
- Develop skills in identifying, sourcing, and replacing faulty components such as motors, heating elements, thermostats, valves, and control boards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, both in the workshop and at client sites, ensuring all tools and parts are properly accounted for.
- Learn to utilize diagnostic tools and equipment, including multimeters, pressure gauges, and temperature probes, to accurately assess equipment performance.
- Document all maintenance and repair activities meticulously, recording parts used, time spent, and detailed descriptions of work performed in a maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Respond to urgent service requests alongside a senior technician to understand the pressures and priorities of breakdown maintenance.
- Participate in company-provided training sessions and certification programs to build technical knowledge and stay current with industry advancements.
- Help manage the inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies on the service vehicle, ensuring it is well-stocked for common repair needs.
