Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Accurately interpret complex work orders, bill of materials (BOMs), and kitting instructions to identify required components for assembly.
  • Efficiently pick and pull raw materials, parts, and subassemblies from designated inventory locations using pick lists or an RF scanner.
  • Perform meticulous component verification, checking part numbers, lot numbers, and quantities against the order specifications to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Assemble diverse and sometimes complex kits by grouping, packaging, and labeling components according to specific production or customer requirements.
  • Operate electronic scales and counting equipment to verify the quantity of small parts, ensuring precise counts for each kit.
  • Utilize the Warehouse Management System (WMS) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software to record transactions, update inventory levels, and track the movement of materials.
  • Prepare finished kits for their next destination, whether it be the production floor, a shipping station, or a specific stock location.
  • Conduct regular quality control checks on finished kits to ensure they are complete, correctly assembled, and free from damage or defects.
  • Package kits securely using appropriate materials (bags, boxes, shrink wrap, etc.) to prevent damage during transit or storage.
  • Print and apply identification labels, barcodes, and shipping labels to kits and containers with a high degree of precision.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by adhering to 5S principles and company safety protocols.
  • Report any inventory discrepancies, damaged goods, or part shortages to the Inventory Control team or a supervisor immediately.
  • Operate material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, and potentially forklifts, to move materials and finished kits throughout the warehouse.
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments, including purchasing, production, and shipping, to resolve issues and ensure a smooth workflow.
  • Meet or exceed established daily and weekly productivity targets and quality standards for kitting and assembly.
  • Assist in cycle counting and physical inventory activities to help maintain the overall accuracy of the warehouse stock.
  • Follow all established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines to ensure consistent and safe work practices.
  • Manage and stage materials for upcoming kitting projects to optimize workflow and minimize downtime between tasks.
  • Break down bulk materials into smaller, usable quantities as required for specific kit builds.
  • Document and record all completed work, including quantities and time taken, in production logs or the WMS system.
  • Monitor and replenish supplies used in the kitting area, such as boxes, tape, labels, and packaging materials, to prevent work stoppages.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by providing feedback and suggestions for enhancing kitting processes and efficiency.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in other warehouse departments, such as shipping, receiving, or picking, as directed by supervisors to meet business needs.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties within the warehouse to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly facility.
  • Support training of new associates by demonstrating proper kitting techniques and procedures.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficiency in using RF (Radio Frequency) scanning devices for inventory transactions.
  • Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or ERP software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment, including manual and electric pallet jacks.
  • Basic computer literacy for data entry, printing labels, and looking up work orders.
  • Strong numerical skills and basic math for accurate counting and quantity verification.
  • Knowledge of proper packaging and material handling techniques.

  • 0 - 2 years of experience in a related environment.

Preferred:

  • 1+ years of direct experience in a kitting, assembly, order picking, or manufacturing role is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced, target-driven warehouse or production environment.
