Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Accurately pick, count, and gather individual components from designated warehouse or stockroom locations based on detailed work orders, pick lists, or Bill of Materials (BOMs).
- Assemble diverse and often complex component kits, ensuring all required parts are present in the correct quantities and configuration for production or customer orders.
- Perform meticulous verification of part numbers, lot numbers, and quantities against documentation to prevent errors and ensure 100% kit accuracy.
- Follow standardized work instructions, diagrams, and process documents to build kits consistently and to the required quality specifications.
- Utilize handheld radio frequency (RF) scanners to perform transactions, track material movements, and maintain real-time inventory accuracy within the warehouse management system (WMS) or enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
- Package completed kits using appropriate materials (bags, boxes, dividers, foam) to protect components during transit and handling.
- Generate and apply labels, barcodes, and other identification tags to finished kits, ensuring they are clearly and correctly marked for their destination.
- Stage and transport completed kits to designated drop-off points, such as production lines, assembly cells, or outbound shipping areas.
- Conduct visual quality inspections on components before and during the kitting process, identifying and segregating any damaged, defective, or non-conforming materials.
- Report any inventory discrepancies, part shortages, or quality issues immediately to a team lead, supervisor, or inventory control personnel for swift resolution.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by adhering to 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) and other housekeeping standards.
- Operate basic material handling equipment, such as manual pallet jacks, carts, and dollies, in a safe and efficient manner to move materials.
- Participate actively in daily or weekly cycle counts and physical inventory activities to support overall inventory accuracy and control.
- Learn and apply proper electrostatic discharge (ESD) handling procedures when working with sensitive electronic components.
- Monitor and replenish consumable supplies (bags, labels, tape) at the kitting station to ensure continuous workflow.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and personnel from other departments (like planning, quality, and shipping) to coordinate activities and resolve issues.
- Meet or exceed established productivity and quality targets while consistently following all safety protocols and company policies.
- Document and record production data, such as the number of kits completed, time taken, and any issues encountered, either manually or electronically.
- Assist in the return-to-stock process for unused components from the production floor, ensuring they are properly counted and transacted back into inventory.
- Actively participate in all required training sessions to develop a comprehensive understanding of kitting processes, systems, and safety procedures.
- Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements within the kitting area to enhance efficiency, quality, or safety, and communicate suggestions to leadership.
- Handle and process Material Review Board (MRB) items according to established procedures, ensuring non-conforming material is properly managed.
