Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Skillfully assemble a diverse range of knife components, including handles, blades, liners, scales, springs, and pocket clips, ensuring a perfect and secure fit for every piece.
  • Operate small bench-top machinery, presses, and pneumatic tools to fasten, rivet, and secure knife parts according to detailed product specifications.
  • Execute precise adjustments to knife mechanisms, such as lockup, blade centering, and deployment action, to ensure smooth and reliable functionality.
  • Perform intricate hand-fitting and finishing operations using files, sandpaper, and other small tools to create seamless transitions between materials like wood, metal, and synthetics.
  • Expertly sharpen, hone, and strop finished blades to achieve a consistently razor-sharp, factory-standard edge, utilizing specialized grinding wheels and honing equipment.
  • Conduct meticulous in-process visual and dimensional inspections of all components and sub-assemblies to identify and reject any parts with flaws, blemishes, or deviations from specifications.
  • Operate buffing and polishing wheels to apply a variety of finishes to blades and handles, ranging from a mirror polish to a satin finish, while adhering to strict safety protocols.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, work orders, and assembly blueprints to understand the specific requirements for different knife models and product runs.
  • Clean, oil, and perform final quality checks on each assembled knife, ensuring it is free of debris, aesthetically perfect, and functions flawlessly before packaging.
  • Maintain a consistent pace of work to meet daily and weekly production quotas and contribute to the overall efficiency of the assembly line.
  • Accurately document completed work, track production numbers, and report any recurring quality issues or assembly challenges to the team lead or supervisor.
  • Set up, calibrate, and perform minor adjustments to assembly fixtures, jigs, and small machines to maintain operational efficiency and precision.
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers to verify that components and final assemblies are within specified tolerances.
  • Apply logos, etchings, or other brand markings to blades or handles using specialized equipment, ensuring clear and accurate placement.
  • Manage and maintain an organized inventory of components and hardware at the workstation to ensure a smooth and continuous workflow.

Secondary Functions

  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including the consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and gloves.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe personal workspace and contribute to the general housekeeping of the overall production area.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of new assemblers, sharing knowledge of best practices, techniques, and safety standards.
  • Participate actively in team meetings and continuous improvement initiatives, providing constructive feedback on processes, tools, and product designs.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Control and Engineering departments to troubleshoot assembly problems and help develop effective solutions.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • High proficiency in using a wide array of hand tools, including precision screwdrivers, files, pliers, and custom jigs, with excellent control.
  • Proven ability to operate bench-top power tools such as buffers, grinders, sanders, and small presses safely and effectively.
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical blueprints, schematics, and detailed work instructions.
  • Competence with precision measuring tools like digital calipers and micrometers to ensure parts meet tolerance specifications.
  • Foundational knowledge of different metals, handle materials, and locking mechanisms used in knife construction.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 1-3 years of hands-on experience in a detail-oriented assembly role, preferably within a manufacturing environment.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in knife making, blade assembly, firearms assembly, jewelry making, or a similar role requiring a high degree of manual dexterity and attention to detail is highly advantageous.
