Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Expertly operate a variety of industrial sewing machines, including overlock, flatlock, coverstitch, and lockstitch, to assemble knitted garments.
- Meticulously follow technical sheets, garment specifications, and sample instructions to ensure accurate construction and assembly of all components.
- Perform complex sewing operations on delicate and stretch-heavy knit fabrics, managing tension and feed to prevent puckering, stretching, or damage.
- Execute a wide range of stitching techniques, such as binding, hemming, topstitching, and attaching trims like elastic and ribbing, with high precision.
- Consistently meet and exceed daily and weekly production targets while maintaining the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.
- Conduct in-process quality checks on your own work, identifying and correcting any sewing defects, measurement inconsistencies, or construction errors immediately.
- Read and interpret production tickets, style numbers, and work orders to ensure the correct threads, fabrics, and components are used for each garment.
- Set up, thread, and adjust sewing machines for different fabric types and sewing operations, ensuring optimal stitch quality and machine performance.
- Handle garments and fabric pieces with extreme care throughout the entire production process to prevent soiling, snagging, or other damage.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation, ensuring all tools, needles, and materials are properly stored and accounted for.
- Work collaboratively with cutters, pressers, and quality control staff to ensure a smooth and efficient production flow from start to finish.
- Report any recurring quality issues, machine malfunctions, or material defects to the production supervisor or mechanic in a timely manner.
- Assemble a diverse range of knitted products, which may include t-shirts, sweatshirts, leggings, sportswear, and intricate fashion pieces.
Secondary Functions
- Perform basic and routine machine maintenance, such as cleaning, oiling, and changing needles, to ensure equipment longevity and prevent downtime.
- Assist in the cross-training and mentoring of new or less-experienced machinists, sharing best practices and techniques.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by providing feedback and suggestions for enhancing production processes, workflow, and quality.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss production goals, challenges, and quality feedback from previous production runs.
