Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Actively assist senior operators in the setup, operation, and monitoring of multiple circular, flatbed, or warp knitting machines.
  • Responsible for creeling the machines, which involves loading yarn cones onto the creel rack and ensuring correct positioning according to production specs.
  • Meticulously thread yarn through machine guides, tensions, and stop-motions to prepare for a new production run.
  • Continuously patrol the assigned set of knitting machines to proactively identify potential issues like yarn breaks, needle defects, or other malfunctions.
  • Perform immediate, basic troubleshooting, such as repairing yarn breaks and restarting machines to minimize production downtime.
  • Carefully doff (remove) completed rolls of knitted fabric from the machines once they reach the specified length or weight.
  • Accurately weigh, measure, and label finished fabric rolls with essential production information, including style, lot number, and operator details.
  • Safely transport completed fabric rolls from the production floor to the designated quality control or warehousing areas.
  • Monitor the quality of the fabric being produced, identifying and flagging defects such as holes, drop stitches, or streaks for corrective action.
  • Read and interpret production work orders and technical specification sheets to ensure the correct yarn, machine settings, and quality standards are met.
  • Maintain accurate and timely production records, documenting output, downtime, and any quality-related issues for shift reporting.
  • Change out and replace defective or broken needles and other small machine components as directed by a senior operator or technician.

Secondary Functions

  • Perform routine cleaning of the knitting machines and the surrounding work area, including removing lint, dust, and waste yarn to maintain a safe and efficient environment.
  • Assist knitting technicians with preventative maintenance tasks, such as oiling machines and checking basic mechanical parts.
  • Inspect incoming yarn packages for defects, correct labeling, and proper conditioning before they are loaded onto the creel.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) when performing maintenance or cleaning.
  • Effectively communicate machine performance, production status, and any unresolved issues to the shift supervisor and incoming shift operators.
  • Operate material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks or carts, to move yarn and other supplies within the department.
  • Ensure proper tension and feeding of all yarn ends to prevent fabric defects and ensure consistent quality across production runs.
  • Collaborate with the quality assurance team by providing fabric samples for testing and helping to trace the source of identified defects.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting ways to enhance efficiency, safety, and quality within the knitting department.
  • Support training of new operator assistants by sharing knowledge and demonstrating proper operational and safety procedures.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Vocational or Technical Certificate in a manufacturing or industrial field.

Relevant Fields of Study:

  • Textile Technology
  • Industrial Maintenance

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 0 - 2 years in a manufacturing or production environment.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in a textile, apparel, or general manufacturing facility is a significant plus.
  • Any familiarity with machine operation, quality control, or production line work is highly desirable.
