Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Learn and master the complete setup and operation of industrial circular and/or flatbed knitting machines under the direct guidance of senior staff.
  • Diligently and accurately thread yarn through complex machine guides, tensioners, and needles according to specific pattern and material requirement sheets.
  • Continuously monitor machine operations with a high level of focus to proactively identify potential issues like yarn breaks, needle defects, or mechanical malfunctions.
  • Develop the ability to quickly and efficiently repair yarn breaks and replace defective needles to minimize machine downtime and prevent fabric flaws.
  • Accurately interpret production orders, technical specifications, and instructional documents to ensure the correct style, size, and material is being produced.
  • Perform routine, in-process quality checks on knitted fabric as it is produced, identifying and flagging defects such as drop stitches, holes, streaks, or barre.
  • Carefully remove completed rolls of fabric (doffing) from the machine, ensuring they are handled properly to prevent any damage or soiling.
  • Weigh, label, and meticulously record production data for each completed fabric roll, maintaining precise records for inventory, traceability, and quality control.
  • Assist senior knitters and technicians with more complex machine changeovers for different fabric styles, patterns, or yarn types.
  • Execute basic preventative maintenance tasks, including systematic cleaning, oiling, and lubricating of knitting machines as per the established schedule.
  • Learn to make fine adjustments to machine settings, such as stitch length, tension, and operational speed, to meet precise fabric quality and weight specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and highly organized work area around the knitting machines to prevent accidents and contamination of raw materials.
  • Communicate effectively and clearly with shift supervisors, mechanics, and quality control personnel regarding production status, machine issues, and quality concerns.
  • Gain proficiency in identifying different yarn types, colors, and deniers, ensuring the correct materials are always loaded onto the assigned machines.
  • Operate material handling equipment, such as manual or electric pallet jacks, to safely transport yarn cases and finished fabric rolls within the department.
  • Follow all company safety protocols and procedures without exception, including the proper and consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participate actively and enthusiastically in all company-provided training programs designed to enhance technical knitting skills and knowledge of textile processes.
  • Learn to troubleshoot and independently resolve common machine alarms and error codes, escalating complex mechanical or electronic issues to the appropriate technician.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment by readily assisting colleagues and actively supporting overall departmental production goals.
  • Develop a keen eye for color consistency and fabric appearance, ensuring the final product consistently meets the customer's aesthetic and quality standards.
  • Manage the yarn inventory at each machine station, ensuring a continuous supply is available to prevent interruptions in the knitting cycle (creeling).

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in the regular cleaning and upkeep of the production floor, including sweeping up lint and disposing of waste materials in the designated manner.
  • Help maintain accurate and up-to-date production logs and records, both digital and paper-based, for traceability and reporting purposes.
  • Support the quality control department by preparing and delivering fabric samples for physical testing and analysis as requested.
  • Participate in shift-start meetings and team huddles to discuss production targets, ongoing challenges, and opportunities for process improvement.
