Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Conduct comprehensive setup, calibration, and style/gauge changes on a variety of circular and/or flatbed knitting machines (e.g., Stoll, Shima Seiki, Lonati, Mayer & Cie) according to specific production orders and technical specifications.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures to identify the root cause of mechanical, electrical, and electronic malfunctions, including issues with yarn feeding, needle selection, and fabric takedown systems.
- Execute timely and effective repairs on knitting machinery, which includes dismantling, repairing, and reassembling complex components like needle beds, carriages, cam boxes, and electronic control boards.
- Meticulously inspect, replace, and align critical knitting elements such as needles, sinkers, jacks, and selectors to prevent fabric defects and ensure consistent stitch quality.
- Develop and implement a proactive preventative maintenance schedule for all knitting equipment to minimize unexpected breakdowns and extend the lifespan of the machinery.
- Monitor machine performance during production runs, making fine-tune adjustments to tension, speed, and timing to optimize output and maintain strict quality standards.
- Read and interpret complex technical manuals, mechanical blueprints, and electrical schematics to aid in troubleshooting and repairs.
- Perform complete machine overhauls and rebuilds as required, restoring equipment to its optimal operating condition.
- Collaborate directly with the design and product development teams to test new yarn types and knit structures, providing technical feedback on machine capabilities and limitations.
- Analyze fabric quality issues, such as drop stitches, press-offs, or patterning errors, and implement corrective actions on the machinery to resolve them permanently.
- Manage the inventory of spare parts, ordering necessary components and maintaining an organized system to ensure parts are available when needed.
- Utilize specialized tools and diagnostic equipment, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and proprietary software, to accurately diagnose and resolve issues.
- Program and adjust machine settings, including stitch patterns and machine timings, using dedicated machine control panels or computer software.
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities are performed in strict compliance with company safety protocols and industry regulations (e.g., LOTO procedures).
- Train and mentor machine operators on basic preventative maintenance tasks, proper machine operation, and initial troubleshooting steps.
