Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions

- Learning and executing the complete setup process for new production runs, which includes interpreting technical sheets, loading correct programs, and precisely threading yarn through carriers and feeders.

- Identifying, diagnosing, and troubleshooting common knitting defects such as drop stitches, holes, press-offs, and yarn breaks, and applying corrective actions under supervision.
- Diligently following detailed work orders and technical specification packets to ensure every product is knitted to the exact design, gauge, and measurement requirements.
- Conducting routine preventative maintenance tasks, including systematic cleaning, oiling of mechanical parts, and the precise replacement of worn or broken needles to maintain machine health.
- Gaining proficiency in adjusting critical machine settings, such as yarn tension, stitch density, and machine speed, to achieve the desired fabric hand-feel and quality.
- Maintaining highly accurate and detailed production logs, carefully recording output numbers, machine downtime, defect rates, and material consumption for performance tracking.
- Actively assisting senior technicians and the R&D team in the knitting of development samples, new stitch trials, and yarn performance tests.
- Skillfully managing the yarn supply for your assigned machines, ensuring correct cones are staged, tied in, and replaced seamlessly to prevent production stops.
- Strictly adhering to all workplace health and safety protocols, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining clear, safe walkways around machinery.
- Developing clear and effective communication skills to liaise with shift supervisors, machine mechanics, and the quality assurance team regarding production status and technical issues.
- Doffing (carefully removing) completed knit pieces or fabric rolls from the machine and preparing them for subsequent production stages like linking, washing, or finishing.
- Learning to use specialized knitting software (e.g., Shima Seiki APEX, Stoll M1plus) for basic pattern viewing, program loading, and minor adjustments.
- Proactively participating in continuous improvement projects aimed at increasing machine efficiency, reducing material waste, and elevating overall product quality.
- Performing regular checks on yarn tension using digital tensiometers to guarantee consistency and uniformity across the entire knitted fabric.
- Assisting senior staff during complex machine changeovers between different styles or gauges, learning the full mechanical and programming conversion process.
- Inspecting incoming raw materials, specifically yarn cones, for any pre-existing defects, color inconsistencies, or winding issues before they enter production.
- Developing a foundational understanding of various yarn properties—including fiber content, count, and twist—and how they impact the knitting process and final fabric.
- Methodically documenting and reporting persistent machine errors or recurring quality problems to the senior technical and maintenance teams for resolution.

- Support the sampling and product development team by producing trial swatches and first-off samples for new designs.
- Contribute to the creation and refinement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for machine operation, quality checks, and maintenance tasks.
