Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Meticulously prepare, handle, and log a high volume of raw material, in-process, and finished product samples for a variety of analytical tests.
  • Independently operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated laboratory instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, FTIR, viscometers, and automated titrators according to established SOPs.
  • Execute a wide range of chemical and physical analyses to assess product quality and ensure it meets stringent internal and external specifications.
  • Accurately record all experimental data, observations, and results in laboratory notebooks, batch records, and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) in a timely and compliant manner.
  • Perform routine and non-routine maintenance and troubleshooting on laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Uphold and strictly adhere to all safety protocols, including proper handling of hazardous chemicals, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintaining a clean and organized work environment (5S principles).
  • Monitor and manage laboratory inventory, including ordering chemicals, consumables, and reagents to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
  • Participate actively in Out-of-Specification (OOS) and deviation investigations, assisting in root cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
  • Prepare chemical solutions, standards, and mobile phases with high precision for use in various analytical procedures.
  • Conduct environmental monitoring, including water sampling and air quality testing, to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Revise and provide feedback on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and test methods to enhance clarity, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Support process validation and new product introduction activities by executing protocols and documenting results as directed by senior scientific staff.
  • Perform critical data review and verification of results generated by peers to ensure data integrity and accuracy before reporting.
  • Operate pilot-scale or bench-top reactors and other processing equipment to support process development and optimization studies.
  • Ensure all activities are performed in strict compliance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and other relevant regulatory guidelines.
  • Package and ship samples to external contract labs for specialized testing, ensuring proper documentation and chain of custody.
  • Assist in the training and onboarding of new lab operators, sharing knowledge on procedures, safety, and equipment operation.
  • Maintain a state of audit-readiness within the laboratory, ensuring all documentation and practices can withstand regulatory scrutiny.
  • Conduct stability testing on products by pulling samples at specified time points and performing required analyses according to stability protocols.
  • Perform routine verifications and performance checks on lab instruments to confirm they are functioning within their specified operational ranges.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and contribute to exploratory data analysis to identify trends or troubleshoot issues.
  • Contribute to the organization's continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting process enhancements for safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering units to translate quality data into actionable process feedback.
  • Participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and other agile ceremonies if applicable to the lab's workflow management.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficiency with analytical instrumentation (e.g., HPLC, GC, Spectroscopy, Titration).
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN).
  • Strong understanding of cGMP, GLP, and ISO 17025 regulatory requirements.
  • Competency in wet chemistry techniques, including solution preparation, titrations, and dilutions.
  • Ability to perform basic equipment maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of safe laboratory practices and chemical handling procedures (EHS).
  • Aseptic technique and experience working in controlled or cleanroom environments (highly preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) for data entry, analysis, and reporting.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Associate's Degree in a scientific discipline OR a High School Diploma/GED with 2+ years of directly relevant laboratory experience.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 1-4 years of hands-on experience in a quality control, R&D, or manufacturing laboratory setting.

  • Experience in a regulated industry such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, food & beverage, or specialty chemicals is highly desirable.
