- Prepare and package biological and hazardous materials for domestic and international transport in compliance with IATA, DOT, and institutional shipping policies.
- Support sample preparation for microscopy, staining procedures (Gram stain, Wright-Giemsa), slide mounting, and preliminary visual inspection for artifacts or anomalies.
- Assist the laboratory quality management system by participating in internal audits, maintaining SOPs and batch records, and supporting corrective/preventive action (CAPA) documentation where requested.
- Provide training assistance and day-to-day mentoring to new trainees or student workers by demonstrating standard procedures, safety practices, and proper documentation standards.
- Carry out basic data processing and analysis tasks using Excel and LIMS reports: generate simple charts, perform calculations, and produce summary tables to support lab reports.
- Engage in continuous improvement by suggesting workflow optimizations, time-saving SOP edits, and opportunities to reduce reagent waste or increase throughput under supervisor review.
Secondary Functions
- Support ad hoc experimental setups, assist scientists with sample aliquoting, plate layout preparation, and run logistics for time-sensitive studies.
- Contribute to reagent and SOP updates by documenting deviations during pilot runs and noting opportunities to improve clarity or safety.
- Assist the lab manager with coordinating external calibration and service visits, receiving vendor technicians, and ensuring service records and invoices are filed.
- Help maintain training matrices and competency records for the lab team; ensure trainee sign-offs are up-to-date and training materials are accessible.
- Participate in inventory reconciliation and longer-term planning to identify recurring procurement needs and alternative suppliers for critical items.
- Support data export and basic curation from instruments to LIMS or shared drives; help maintain folder structure and naming conventions for easy retrieval.
- Assist with environmental monitoring programs (surface swabs, settle plates) and document results to support facility qualification and cleanliness assessments.
- Provide occasional administrative support such as scheduling pickups for hazardous waste disposal, preparing requisitions, and archiving completed study records.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (quality, supply chain, clinical operations) to facilitate sample transfers, material release, and day-to-day troubleshooting.
