Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Direct and supervise a crew of 2-6 landscape technicians and laborers, delegating daily tasks to ensure efficient workflow and project progression.
  • Read, interpret, and implement complex landscape design blueprints, specifications, and work orders to guide all on-site construction activities.
  • Manage all aspects of high-end hardscape installations, including patios, retaining walls, walkways, fire pits, and outdoor kitchens using pavers, natural stone, and block.
  • Oversee the complete installation of softscape materials, including the proper planting of trees, shrubs, perennials, and sod, ensuring horticultural best practices are followed.
  • Operate and train crew members on a wide range of light and heavy equipment, such as skid steers, mini-excavators, loaders, trenchers, and plate compactors.
  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for clients, providing regular project updates, answering questions, and ensuring complete client satisfaction.
  • Enforce strict company safety protocols and OSHA standards on-site, conducting daily safety briefings and ensuring all crew members utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Meticulously plan and manage on-site logistics, including coordinating the delivery of materials, soil, and plants, and managing site inventory.
  • Proactively identify and resolve on-site challenges, such as unexpected site conditions, material shortages, or equipment malfunctions, with minimal disruption to the project timeline.
  • Maintain precise daily logs and project documentation, including employee hours, materials used, work completed, and site progress photos.
  • Train, mentor, and develop crew members, fostering a positive team environment and promoting skill advancement in landscaping techniques.
  • Install and troubleshoot low-voltage landscape lighting and drainage systems, ensuring proper functionality and integration into the overall design.
  • Manage site preparation, including demolition, excavation, and grading, to establish the proper foundation and drainage for all landscape elements.
  • Ensure the proper care, maintenance, and security of all company tools, equipment, and vehicles on a daily basis.
  • Communicate effectively with Project Managers and Designers regarding project status, potential change orders, and any issues that may impact the budget or schedule.
  • Uphold the highest standards of craftsmanship and quality control, conducting regular inspections of all work to ensure it meets or exceeds company and client expectations.
  • Manage the loading and unloading of trucks and trailers, guaranteeing that all equipment and materials are properly secured for safe transport.
  • Perform final site walkthroughs with clients and project managers to ensure all project requirements have been met and to create a final punch list.
  • Install and manage various types of irrigation systems, from drip lines to multi-zone sprinkler systems, ensuring efficient water coverage.
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, and teamwork, leading by example in work ethic and attitude on the job site.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Advanced Equipment Operation: Proficiency in operating skid steers, mini-excavators, and other common landscape construction equipment.
  • Hardscape Expertise: Deep knowledge of installation techniques for pavers, retaining walls (SRW), and natural stone.
  • Blueprint & Plan Reading: Ability to accurately read and execute tasks from landscape architecture plans and specifications.
  • Plant & Horticultural Knowledge: Strong identification skills for regional plants, trees, and shrubs, along with knowledge of proper planting and care techniques.
  • Irrigation Systems: Experience with the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of various irrigation systems.
  • Site Grading & Drainage: Competency in establishing correct grades for proper water management and surface drainage.

Experience Requirements
