Core Responsibilities

As the hands-on support for the laser operations team, your days will be dynamic and engaging. You'll be involved in nearly every step of the process.

Primary Functions

  • Assist senior technicians with the detailed setup and calibration of complex laser cutting, engraving, or welding systems, following technical specifications and work orders to the letter.
  • Carefully load raw materials like sheet metal, plastics, or textiles onto the laser bed and unload finished parts, ensuring proper handling techniques to prevent scratches or damage.
  • Perform critical, first-article and in-process quality control checks on finished components using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify they meet strict tolerance requirements.
  • Conduct daily and weekly preventative maintenance on laser equipment, which includes cleaning sensitive lenses and mirrors, checking cooling systems, and replacing consumable parts to minimize downtime and ensure peak performance.
  • Actively monitor laser machine operations during production runs, watching vigilantly for any signs of malfunction, error codes, or deviations from the expected process, and alerting a senior technician immediately.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and exceptionally safe work environment around the laser systems, strictly adhering to all company and industry safety protocols, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Read and interpret basic engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions to develop a clear understanding of the requirements for each unique job.
  • Operate material handling equipment, such as overhead cranes, forklifts, or pallet jacks, to move large sheets of material or pallets of finished goods in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Participate in troubleshooting basic machine alarms and operational issues, working under the direct guidance and supervision of a senior technician to learn diagnostic processes.
  • Perform daily system startup and shutdown procedures for the laser equipment, following a standardized checklist to ensure machine health and readiness.
  • Deburr, grind, or otherwise finish processed parts as required to remove sharp edges and prepare them for the next stage of production, assembly, or painting.
  • Accurately document production data, including part counts, cycle times, material usage, and any non-conformances, using the company's data entry system or logs.

Secondary Functions

  • In a medical or aesthetic setting, you will be tasked with preparing treatment rooms by ensuring all laser equipment is sanitized, calibrated, and ready for use by the supervising clinician.
  • Provide direct, hands-on assistance to the licensed practitioner during laser procedures (e.g., hair removal, skin resurfacing) by anticipating their needs, handing them instruments, and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Manage inventory of raw materials and consumable supplies for the laser department, notifying a supervisor when stock levels are low to proactively prevent operational delays.
  • Package and label finished parts securely and accurately, preparing them for internal transfer to other departments or for final shipment to customers.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by observing processes and suggesting practical ways to enhance efficiency, improve quality, or bolster safety within the work area.
  • Ensure all scrap material is properly segregated and disposed of according to the company's environmental and waste management policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and personnel from other departments like quality control and shipping to ensure a smooth, end-to-end workflow.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations when working in a medical or clinical environment.
