Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Diligently collect and transport soiled linens, towels, and personal clothing from designated collection points throughout the facility, using wheeled carts and adhering to established schedules to prevent cross-contamination.
- Expertly sort all incoming soiled laundry into specified categories (e.g., sheets, towels, personal clothing, heavily soiled items) in preparation for washing to ensure optimal cleaning and prevent fabric damage.
- Safely and efficiently operate large-capacity, commercial-grade washing machines, carefully loading and unloading items and selecting the correct pre-programmed wash cycles and chemical formulas.
- Operate industrial steam tunnel finishers and dryers, selecting the correct temperature and drying time to prevent shrinkage or damage to fabrics while ensuring items are thoroughly dried.
- Safely handle and dispense industrial laundry chemicals, such as detergents, bleaches, and softeners, following all Safety Data Sheet (SDS) guidelines and consistently using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Meticulously inspect all processed linens for quality, checking for any remaining stains, tears, or excessive wear, and segregating damaged items for mending or disposal according to facility policy.
- Expertly operate flatwork ironers, presses, and automated folding machines to professionally finish clean linens like sheets, pillowcases, and tablecloths to a crisp, uniform standard.
- Carefully fold, stack, and organize all clean laundry, including towels, gowns, and personal clothing, ensuring they are neat, accounted for, and ready for distribution.
- Assemble and stock clean linen carts for various user departments according to pre-established par levels and daily requisitions, ensuring accuracy in counts and item types.
- Distribute clean linen carts and deliver bulk linen items to designated storage closets and drop-off points throughout the facility in a timely and efficient manner.
- Maintain a detailed and accurate daily log of laundry activities, including weights of processed linen, number of loads completed, and any machine-related issues for operational tracking.
- Uphold strict adherence to all health and safety regulations, including universal precautions, blood-borne pathogen standards, and infection control protocols, to maintain a sanitary and safe work environment.
- Regularly clean and sanitize all laundry equipment, including the interiors of washing machines, dryer lint traps, and folding surfaces, to prevent contamination and ensure optimal performance.
- Maintain the general cleanliness and organization of the entire laundry processing area, including sweeping, mopping, wiping down surfaces, and properly disposing of waste materials.
- Carefully process and track residents' or guests' personal clothing, ensuring items are properly labeled, laundered according to specific needs, and returned to the correct individual.
- Monitor inventory levels of laundry supplies, such as chemicals, cart liners, and mending kits, and promptly report any shortages to the supervisor for timely reordering.
