Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Orchestrate the complete laundry process, managing the flow of soiled linens from collection points to their final destination as clean, pressed, and neatly folded stock, ready for redistribution.
  • Meticulously sort all incoming soiled linen, uniforms, and textiles, identifying items requiring special treatment, pre-soaking, or specific stain removal procedures to maximize their lifespan.
  • Operate and supervise the use of heavy-duty commercial laundry equipment, including washers, dryers, and pressers, ensuring proper loading, cycle selection, and chemical dosage for optimal cleaning and fabric care.
  • Conduct rigorous and consistent quality control inspections on all processed items, checking for persistent stains, damages, or wear and tear, and segregating items for rewash, repair, or condemnation.
  • Manage and maintain a precise inventory of all linen, terry, and uniform stock, conducting regular physical counts and reconciling them with system records to ensure accuracy and prevent shortages.
  • Coordinate the daily work assignments and schedules for a team of laundry attendants, providing clear direction and support to ensure production targets are met efficiently and safely.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate operational logs, documenting daily poundage processed, chemical consumption, discarded items, and equipment performance for reporting and analysis.
  • Liaise directly with external laundry service providers if applicable, coordinating pickup and delivery schedules and verifying the quality and quantity of returned items against invoices.
  • Implement and enforce all health and safety protocols within the laundry facility, including proper handling of chemicals and biohazardous materials, to ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
  • Address and resolve any laundry-related issues or special requests from other departments, demonstrating a customer-service-oriented approach to internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee the distribution of clean linens and uniforms to various departments according to their established par levels and daily requirements.
  • Train new and existing laundry staff on standard operating procedures, equipment use, safety guidelines, and quality standards to build a competent and effective team.
  • Monitor the supply levels of all laundry chemicals and cleaning agents, placing orders as needed to prevent any disruption in the washing process.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance on laundry equipment, such as cleaning lint filters and reporting any malfunctions or needs for professional repair promptly to the maintenance department.
  • Develop and manage an effective system for tracking and processing guest laundry, ensuring accurate billing and timely return of personal items to the highest standard.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports to management on key performance indicators, such as productivity, linen loss/discard rates, and operational costs.
  • Champion sustainability initiatives within the department by optimizing water and energy usage and promoting proper chemical handling and waste disposal.
  • Manage the uniform program, including fitting new employees, tracking uniform issuance and returns, and coordinating repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Uphold the highest standards of cleanliness and organization within the laundry facility and all linen storage areas.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all laundry-related inquiries, providing clear and professional communication to team members and other department heads.

  • Respond to ad-hoc requests from management for specific data, such as linen replacement costs or departmental usage trends, by pulling and analyzing operational records.
  • Contribute to the department's operational strategy by providing insights on equipment efficiency, chemical consumption, and staffing levels based on collected data.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as Housekeeping and Food & Beverage, to understand their evolving linen needs and translate them into production schedules and inventory requirements.
  • Participate in regular departmental meetings and planning sessions to review performance, address challenges, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Commercial Laundry Equipment Operation: Deep understanding of the functionality and safe operation of industrial washers, dryers, ironers, and folding machines.
  • Inventory Management: Proficiency in using inventory software or manual tracking systems (e.g., Excel) to manage stock levels, conduct counts, and track linen movement.
  • Textile & Fabric Knowledge: Ability to identify different types of fabrics and know their specific care, washing, and temperature requirements.
  • Chemical Handling and Safety: Knowledge of various laundry chemicals, their purpose, proper dosage, and adherence to safety data sheets (SDS) and OSHA standards.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:
