Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Operate and monitor industrial-grade washing and drying machines, ensuring proper cycles, water temperatures, and chemical levels are used for different fabric types.
  • Accurately sort large volumes of soiled linens, towels, and garments by color, fabric, and soil level to prevent damage and optimize cleaning effectiveness.
  • Load and unload commercial washers and dryers, carefully adhering to capacity guidelines to ensure machine efficiency and the quality of the wash.
  • Expertly feed linens through flatwork ironers, steam tunnels, and automatic folding equipment to achieve a crisp, professional finish.
  • Meticulously inspect all cleaned items for persistent stains, tears, wear, or other quality defects, segregating items for re-treatment or repair.
  • Precisely fold, count, and stack clean linens and uniforms according to established organizational standards for storage and distribution.
  • Handle and dispense laundry chemicals and detergents safely, following all manufacturer guidelines and workplace safety protocols (e.g., SDS).
  • Maintain a constant workflow to meet the daily demands of other departments, ensuring a steady and reliable supply of clean textiles.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, including universal precautions and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), especially when handling contaminated linens in a healthcare environment.
  • Transport carts of soiled and clean linen between the laundry facility and various departments or storage areas in a safe and timely manner.
  • Treat and remove identified stains using appropriate spotting chemicals and techniques before the main washing cycle.
  • Manage the processing of specialty items, such as delicate guest garments or specific client requests, with a high degree of care and attention.

Secondary Functions

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on laundry equipment, such as cleaning lint traps, wiping down machinery, and checking fluid levels.
  • Immediately report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or needs for repair to the Laundry Supervisor or Maintenance department.
  • Assist in maintaining an accurate inventory of linen stock, participating in periodic physical counts and reporting on par levels.
  • Keep a detailed log of laundry activities, including load weights, cycle counts, and processed items for operational analysis.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment by sweeping floors, sanitizing carts, and ensuring supplies are stored properly.
  • Assist in training new team members on standard operating procedures, equipment use, and safety guidelines.
