Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Operate a variety of commercial-grade mechanical equipment, including zero-turn mowers, walk-behind mowers, trimmers, edgers, and backpack blowers to maintain turf health and appearance.
- Perform routine lawn maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming around obstacles, edging along curbs and walkways, and blowing debris from all hard surfaces.
- Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides according to a pre-determined schedule, adhering strictly to safety procedures, application rates, and state/local regulations.
- Conduct regular property inspections to identify and diagnose turf issues, including diseases, insect infestations, and weeds, and recommend appropriate treatment plans.
- Execute seasonal landscape enhancement services, such as core aeration, overseeding, dethatching, and sod installation to improve lawn density and health.
- Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on all lawn care equipment to ensure it remains in safe and optimal working condition.
- Interact with clients in a professional and courteous manner, proactively addressing their questions, listening to their concerns, and providing expert advice regarding their lawn care services.
- Accurately complete daily work orders and digital reports, meticulously documenting services performed, products used, and time allocated to each property.
- Adhere to all company safety protocols and industry best practices to ensure a safe working environment for yourself, your team, clients, and the public.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for upselling additional services to clients, such as grub control, landscape lighting, or seasonal clean-ups.
- Manage and maintain a clean, organized work vehicle, ensuring it is properly stocked with the necessary tools, fuel, and supplies for the day's route.
- Assist with landscape installation projects, which may include planting trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals as directed by the crew leader or landscape designer.
- Perform comprehensive spring and fall clean-up services, including leaf removal, gutter cleaning, perennial cutbacks, and preparing garden beds for the upcoming season.
- Monitor and operate irrigation systems, performing basic checks for leaks or broken heads, adjusting watering schedules, and reporting complex malfunctions to a supervisor.
- Proactively monitor the health and aesthetic quality of turf, plants, trees, and shrubs on client properties, reporting any signs of stress or decline.
- Safely drive a company vehicle, often towing a trailer, to and from multiple job sites while following all traffic laws and maintaining a professional company image.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to efficiently complete daily routes, ensuring a consistently high standard of quality across all assigned jobs.
- Provide exceptional customer service by leaving properties in a clean, tidy, and immaculate state upon completion of all work.
- Participate in snow and ice removal operations during winter months, which may involve operating plows, snow blowers, shoveling walkways, and applying de-icing agents.
- Properly mix and handle chemical applications, always wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in training new team members on equipment operation, safety procedures, and quality standards.
- Help maintain inventory of landscape supplies, materials, and parts at the company shop.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss daily schedules, safety topics, and operational improvements.
- Provide feedback to management on equipment performance, route efficiency, and client satisfaction.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Equipment Operation: Proficiency with commercial-grade lawn equipment, especially zero-turn mowers, string trimmers, and edgers.
- Driving: Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record is essential.
- Trailer Operation: Demonstrated ability to safely drive a truck and trailer combination.
- Small Engine Maintenance: Ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines.
- Horticultural Knowledge: Basic knowledge of turf types, common weeds, pests, and plant diseases.
- Application Knowledge: Experience with proper application techniques for fertilizers and pesticides is highly preferred.

Experience Requirements
Typical Experience Range: 1-3 years of professional lawn maintenance or landscaping experience.
Preferred: 2+ years of experience working for a commercial landscape maintenance company, with proven expertise in operating a variety of professional equipment. Experience with chemical application licensing is a significant plus.
