Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technical writers, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and excellence in content creation.
  • Define, execute, and own the overarching documentation strategy and roadmap, ensuring it aligns with product development priorities and business objectives.
  • Establish, govern, and evolve documentation standards, style guides, and quality assurance processes to guarantee consistency, clarity, and accuracy across all content.
  • Oversee the end-to-end documentation lifecycle for multiple product lines or complex features, from initial planning and information gathering to authoring, publishing, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Act as the lead writer and editor for the team, personally authoring critical pieces of documentation and providing rigorous reviews to uphold quality standards.
  • Collaborate deeply with cross-functional stakeholders, including Product Managers, Engineers, UX Designers, and Customer Support, to ensure technical accuracy and relevance.
  • Champion and implement a "docs-as-code" methodology, integrating documentation into the CI/CD pipeline and leveraging tools like Git, Markdown, and static site generators.
  • Architect and manage the information architecture for our documentation portal, optimizing for searchability, discoverability, and a seamless user journey.
  • Analyze user feedback, support ticket trends, and documentation site analytics to identify content gaps, user pain points, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage complex documentation projects, including defining scope, allocating resources, and tracking timelines to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality content for product launches.
  • Spearhead the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new documentation tools, technologies, and platforms to enhance team efficiency and the end-user experience.
  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert on documentation best practices and act as the voice of the user in product strategy and design discussions.
  • Translate highly complex technical concepts, system architectures, and API functionalities into clear, concise, and accessible language for diverse audiences.
  • Develop and maintain sophisticated diagrams, flowcharts, and other visual aids to simplify and explain intricate technical processes.
  • Conduct regular content audits and peer reviews to maintain a high bar for quality, identify outdated information, and ensure the content library remains current.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness, impact, and ROI of the team's documentation efforts.
  • Drive the content strategy for major product releases, ensuring all customer-facing and internal documentation is prepared, reviewed, and ready for go-live.
  • Proactively engage with the developer community, user forums, and customer advisory boards to directly understand their documentation needs and challenges.
  • Manage the localization and translation process for documentation, collaborating with vendors and internal teams to support a global user base.
