Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Design, develop, and deliver engaging, evidence-based lectures, seminars, tutorials, and practical sessions for undergraduate and/or postgraduate programmes, ensuring alignment with programme learning outcomes and accreditation standards.
  • Create, curate and maintain up-to-date course materials, lecture notes, reading lists, multimedia resources, and online modules (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle) that reflect current research and industry practice.
  • Plan and implement fair, transparent, and rigorous assessment strategies, including formative and summative assessments, exams, project briefs, rubrics, and marking schemes that measure learning outcomes effectively.
  • Mark, grade and provide timely, constructive feedback on student work, examinations, coursework, and practical assessments in accordance with departmental policies and external moderation requirements.
  • Supervise and mentor undergraduate dissertations, final-year projects, and postgraduate research students; provide regular academic and pastoral support and monitor progress toward timely completion.
  • Develop and review course curricula and syllabi, liaising with programme directors and external stakeholders to ensure coherence across modules, accreditation compliance and continual curriculum enhancement.
  • Plan and manage classroom and online teaching schedules, including timetabling, guest lectures, and coordination of teaching assistants, demonstrators and adjunct staff.

  • Support the induction, training and supervision of teaching assistants, sessional lecturers and demonstrators to maintain consistent teaching quality.
