Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Establish and implement high-quality static and dynamic lighting for both real-time game environments and pre-rendered cinematic sequences.
- Collaborate closely with Art Directors, Environment Artists, and Level Designers to define and execute the desired lighting style and emotional tone for each scene.
- Create and fine-tune light sources, including key, fill, and rim lights, as well as global illumination, to achieve a visually compelling and realistic result.
- Develop and place reflection probes, lightmaps, and other lighting-related assets to ensure materials and surfaces react convincingly to their environment.
- Author and manage complex post-processing effects, including color grading, bloom, lens flares, depth of field, and exposure to enhance the final cinematic quality.
- Troubleshoot and resolve lighting-related technical issues, such as light leaks, incorrect shadows, and performance bottlenecks, in collaboration with the engineering team.
- Optimize lighting setups and rendering settings across various platforms (PC, console, mobile) to achieve target frame rates without compromising artistic integrity.
- Work within the constraints of the project's performance budget, meticulously profiling and adjusting lighting complexity to maintain smooth gameplay.
- Create and manage lighting for dynamic elements such as characters, vehicles, and visual effects to ensure they are seamlessly integrated into the environment.
- Translate 2D concept art and color keys into fully realized 3D lighting scenarios, maintaining the original artistic intent.
