Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Meticulously receive, sort, and weigh all soiled linens from various departments, separating items based on fabric type, color, and soil level.
  • Operate industrial-grade washing and drying equipment, adhering to specific formulas and settings for different linen types to ensure optimal cleaning and longevity.
  • Inspect all processed linens for quality assurance, identifying and segregating items with stains, tears, or excessive wear for re-treatment or discard.
  • Expertly fold, count, and stack clean linens according to established standards, ensuring they are neat, organized, and ready for distribution.
  • Manage and maintain precise inventory records of all linen stock, conducting regular cycle counts and full physical inventories to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare and assemble linen carts and orders for user departments (e.g., Housekeeping, F&B, Spa) based on daily requisitions or par stock levels.
  • Distribute clean linens to designated storage closets and departments in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring a consistent and adequate supply.
  • Monitor and maintain established par levels for all linen types, proactively communicating with supervisors about potential shortages or overstock situations.
  • Document and process discarded linen, maintaining accurate records of items removed from circulation to assist with budget and purchasing forecasts.
  • Systematically organize and maintain the cleanliness of the central linen room and all associated storage areas, ensuring a safe and orderly work environment.
  • Oversee the issuance, tracking, and collection of employee uniforms, managing repairs and replacements as necessary.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs for laundry machinery to the appropriate department to prevent operational delays.
  • Assist in unloading deliveries from external laundry services or suppliers, verifying quantities and quality against delivery invoices.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines, including proper handling of biohazardous materials in healthcare settings.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with staff from all departments to coordinate linen needs and resolve any service issues.
  • Track laundry production and linen usage data to help identify trends, improve efficiency, and control operational costs.
  • Handle special requests for linen items promptly and courteously, providing excellent internal customer service.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist in training new team members on proper procedures for sorting, washing, folding, and inventory management.
  • Support the broader Housekeeping or Operations team with special projects or during peak demand periods as assigned by a supervisor.
  • Monitor the usage and inventory of laundry chemicals and cleaning supplies, notifying a supervisor when reordering is necessary.
  • Participate actively in departmental meetings, contributing ideas for process improvements and enhanced efficiency.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Inventory Management: Proficiency in counting, tracking, and maintaining accurate stock levels, with experience using inventory software being a plus.
  • Laundry Equipment Operation: Ability to safely and efficiently operate commercial washers, dryers, and pressing machines.
  • Basic Mathematical Skills: Strong aptitude for counting, addition, and subtraction for inventory and reporting purposes.
  • Quality Control: A keen eye for detail to inspect linens for stains, damage, and overall quality.
  • Knowledge of Cleaning Agents: Understanding of various laundry chemicals and their proper application for different fabrics and stains.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred Education:

  • Vocational training or certification in Hospitality, Housekeeping, or Laundry Operations.

Relevant Fields of Study:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

  • 0-2 years of experience in a laundry, housekeeping, or stockroom environment.

Preferred:

  • At least 1 year of direct experience as a Linen Clerk or Laundry Attendant in a hotel, resort, hospital, or commercial laundry facility is highly desirable.
