Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Supervise, direct, and motivate a team of store associates, managing daily tasks, and fostering a positive, high-performance work environment.
  • Oversee and execute all store opening and closing procedures, including cash handling, till reconciliation, and ensuring the facility is secure.
  • Act as the senior point of contact on the sales floor, expertly resolving escalated customer issues and complaints with a focus on service recovery and retention.
  • Ensure the store's strict adherence to all federal, state, and local laws governing the sale, service, and promotion of alcoholic beverages, including ID verification.
  • Manage inventory control processes, including receiving shipments, verifying invoices, executing accurate stocking, and conducting regular cycle counts to ensure data integrity.
  • Lead by example in providing exceptional customer service, engaging with shoppers to offer expert recommendations on wine, spirits, and beer selections.
  • Drive store sales and profitability by implementing promotional campaigns, training staff on effective up-selling techniques, and monitoring sales performance against targets.
  • Manage team schedules to ensure optimal floor coverage that aligns with customer traffic patterns and stays within labor budget constraints.
  • Maintain a high standard of store cleanliness, organization, and safety, conducting regular store walks to identify and address any potential hazards or maintenance needs.
  • Implement and enforce loss prevention policies and procedures to minimize shrinkage, theft, and product damage.
  • Operate Point of Sale (POS) systems with proficiency, troubleshoot minor system errors, and ensure all transactions are processed accurately.
  • Assist the Store Manager in performance management activities, including providing constructive feedback, contributing to performance reviews, and identifying training needs.

Secondary Functions

  • Develop and deliver ongoing product knowledge training for staff to enhance their expertise and ability to assist customers effectively.
  • Plan and execute visual merchandising strategies, ensuring displays are attractive, fully stocked, and compliant with brand standards to create a compelling shopping experience.
  • Analyze sales reports and customer data to identify purchasing trends, popular products, and opportunities for inventory or marketing adjustments.
  • Coordinate and lead in-store events, such as product tastings, "meet the maker" sessions, or educational classes, to drive customer engagement and loyalty.
  • Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding process for new store associates to build a strong and capable team.
  • Manage the process for customer special orders, from initial request and sourcing to final communication and pickup.

  • Communicate key corporate directives, policy updates, and business goals to the team in a clear and motivating manner during team huddles or meetings.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • POS System Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of retail Point of Sale systems (e.g., Lightspeed, Clover, Square) for transactions, reporting, and troubleshooting.

  • Cash Management & Reconciliation: Proven ability to accurately handle cash, manage floats, and perform end-of-day financial reconciliation.
