Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Manage and coordinate the entire order cycle from receiving purchase orders to final delivery, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and clear communication with all stakeholders.
- Develop and implement strategies for optimizing transportation routes and carrier selection to minimize freight costs and improve delivery performance.
- Oversee and manage relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) providers, freight forwarders, and transportation carriers, negotiating rates and service level agreements.
- Monitor and track shipments in real-time, proactively identifying and resolving potential delays, damages, or discrepancies by communicating with carriers and customers.
- Prepare, review, and process all necessary shipping and receiving documentation, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and customs paperwork for international freight.
- Ensure full compliance with all domestic and international shipping regulations, including customs laws, tariffs, trade agreements (e.g., USMCA), and transportation safety standards (e.g., DOT).
- Analyze and report on key logistics performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery, freight cost per unit, carrier performance, and inventory accuracy.
- Collaborate closely with warehouse teams to manage inventory levels, support cycle counts, and ensure efficient storage, picking, packing, and order fulfillment processes.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for resolving any arising problems or complaints from customers or suppliers related to transportation, delivery, or product condition.
- Utilize Logistics Management Systems (LMS), Transportation Management Systems (TMS), and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) to plan, execute, and track the movement of goods.
- Conduct regular freight audits to verify invoicing accuracy against contracted rates and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
- Liaise with procurement, sales, and manufacturing departments to align logistics activities with production schedules, sales forecasts, and overall customer demand.
- Manage the reverse logistics process, coordinating the efficient return of goods from customers for repair, replacement, credit, or proper disposal.
- Evaluate and recommend new logistics technologies, software, and processes to enhance operational efficiency and visibility across the supply chain.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all logistics functions to ensure consistency, quality, and facilitate team training.
- Coordinate the complex logistics for special projects, such as new product launches, trade show shipments, or facility relocations, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
- Manage freight claims with carriers for lost or damaged goods, ensuring timely filing and resolution to minimize financial loss.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all logistics activities, including shipment details, carrier communications, and cost documentation for audit and reporting purposes.
- Assess and mitigate risks within the supply chain by developing contingency plans for potential disruptions like carrier failures, port congestion, or adverse weather.
- Source and qualify new carriers and logistics partners to expand network options and drive competitive pricing and service levels.
