- Identify, isolate, and report any dangerous goods, hazardous materials, or prohibited items according to federal regulations and organizational policies.
- Physically lift, move, and position baggage of varying weights (often up to 70 lbs) onto and off conveyor belts and inspection tables.
- Clearly and calmly communicate with passengers to explain the screening process, provide instructions, and address concerns related to baggage inspections.
- Maintain a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of all security directives, screening protocols, and evolving threat intelligence.
- Prepare accurate and detailed incident reports regarding security breaches, discovery of prohibited items, or any unusual occurrences for supervisory review.
- Collaborate effectively with a team of fellow officers, supervisors, and airline staff to ensure a secure, efficient, and integrated screening operation.
- Perform daily operational checks and calibrations on all screening equipment to ensure it is functioning at peak performance and report any malfunctions.
- Securely handle and process any surrendered or discovered threats according to established protocols, which may involve coordination with law enforcement officials.
- Maintain exceptional situational awareness of the entire screening environment to identify and respond to suspicious behavior, potential vulnerabilities, or safety hazards.
