Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct thorough diagnostic evaluations of damaged luggage to accurately identify all points of failure, including structural, component, and cosmetic issues.
  • Skillfully execute a wide range of repairs on both hardside and softside luggage, addressing issues with wheels, telescoping handles, zippers, locks, and fabric tears.
  • Precisely replace broken or worn components such as wheel assemblies, trolley systems, carry handles, and TSA-approved locks, ensuring proper fit and function.
  • Utilize a variety of hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment like rivet guns and industrial sewing machines to perform high-quality repairs.
  • Meticulously document all repair work, parts used, and labor time for each service order in the company's maintenance tracking system.
  • Communicate directly with customers to explain the nature of the damage, outline the required repairs, provide cost estimates, and set realistic timelines for completion.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of different luggage brands, materials (e.g., polycarbonate, ABS, ballistic nylon, leather), and construction techniques.
  • Accurately identify, source, and order necessary replacement parts from a network of suppliers, ensuring component compatibility and managing inventory for common items.
  • Perform final quality control checks on all repaired items to guarantee that they meet stringent brand standards and are safe and functional for the customer.
  • Manage the personal workshop or bay area, ensuring it remains clean, organized, and safe, with all tools and equipment properly maintained and stored.
  • Provide expert advice to customers on the proper care, maintenance, and use of their travel goods to prevent future damage.
  • Deconstruct and salvage usable components from non-repairable luggage to build a stock of spare parts for discontinued or hard-to-find models.
  • Interpret technical diagrams, service manuals, and warranty policies to guide repair procedures and ensure compliance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Handle and process warranty claims, carefully assessing whether the damage falls within the scope of the manufacturer's warranty coverage.
  • Prepare detailed reports on repair activities, including common failure points and material defects, to provide feedback to product development and quality assurance teams.

Secondary Functions

  • Provide on-demand technical assessments for customer service teams to help resolve complex or unusual damage claims and inquiries.
  • Contribute to the organization's product improvement process by systematically logging repair data and identifying trends in product failures or material weaknesses.
  • Collaborate with the inventory and logistics teams to forecast parts needs and streamline the parts ordering and receiving process.

  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong proficiency in using a wide variety of hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers) and power tools (drills, rivet guns, heat guns).
  • Material Knowledge: Familiarity with the properties and repair techniques for materials like polycarbonate, ABS plastics, ballistic nylon, leather, and various textiles.
  • Component Repair and Replacement: Demonstrated ability to repair or replace complex components like telescoping handle systems, 360-degree spinner wheels, and combination locks.
  • Diagnostic Skills: The ability to systematically inspect a product, identify the root cause of a malfunction, and determine the most effective repair strategy.
