Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Conduct initial machine setup and configuration at the start of each production run, including calibration, cleaning, and tooling changes, to ensure alignment with specific job orders and blueprints.
- Diligently monitor and control machine operations, actively adjusting settings such as speed, feed rate, temperature, and pressure to maintain optimal performance and product quality.
- Safely and accurately load raw materials, workpieces, or components into machinery, whether semi-automated or fully automated, ensuring a continuous and efficient production flow.
- Perform rigorous in-process and final quality inspections on parts and finished products using precision measuring tools like calipers, micrometers, gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
- Interpret and work from technical documents, including blueprints, engineering drawings, schematics, and work orders, to produce parts that meet exact specifications and tolerances.
- Execute routine and preventative maintenance tasks on machinery, such as lubrication, cleaning, and minor repairs, to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve minor operational problems and machine malfunctions in a timely manner, escalating complex issues to maintenance technicians or supervisors.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area by adhering to 5S principles and company-wide safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Accurately complete all required production documentation, including logs, quality reports, and output records, using both paper-based and digital systems (MES).
- Observe machine operations to detect and diagnose abnormalities, such as worn tools, material defects, or unusual mechanical sounds, and take appropriate corrective action.
- Unload finished parts or products from the machine, performing any necessary secondary operations like deburring, cleaning, or assembly before staging them for the next process.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and quality control personnel to ensure production goals and quality standards are consistently met.
- Manage the inventory of raw materials and supplies at the workstation, notifying supervisors or material handlers when replenishment is needed to prevent production stoppages.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and policies to foster a secure working environment for oneself and colleagues.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, providing valuable feedback and suggestions for enhancing process efficiency, safety, and product quality.
- Change out and set up tooling, dies, and fixtures as required for different production jobs, ensuring proper alignment and secure installation.
- Operate material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks or forklifts, to move raw materials and finished goods within the production facility (if certified).
- Perform first-article inspections to verify that the initial part produced in a run meets all dimensional and quality requirements before proceeding with full production.
- Monitor and manage the flow of coolants and lubricants, ensuring proper levels and functionality to prevent tool wear and overheating.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of new or less experienced operators, sharing knowledge of machine operation, safety procedures, and quality standards.
- Package and label finished products according to customer specifications and internal standards, ensuring they are ready for shipment or storage.
- Verify that all safety guards and emergency stops on the machinery are functioning correctly before and during each shift.
