- Execute routine cleaning and clean-in-place (CIP) procedures for mixing vessels, lines, screens and filters to prevent product contamination and maintain product quality.
- Perform first-line mechanical and electrical troubleshooting (e.g., pump cavitation, motor overload, valve leaks, PLC alarms) and coordinate with maintenance for repairs, replacement parts and preventive maintenance tasks.
- Ensure proper labeling, packaging and drum filling operations for finished paint products; confirm container closures, labels and shipping documentation comply with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Follow all environmental, health and safety (EHS) procedures including proper use of PPE, safe handling and storage of solvents, pigments and hazardous chemicals, and correct segregation and disposal of waste streams.
- Monitor and control process variables such as mixing speed, temperature, shear rate and dwell time to maintain formulation integrity and consistent product performance.
- Stage and prepare raw materials for production runs, confirm inventory levels, rotate stock by FIFO, and raise material shortages or discrepancies to the supervisor or materials team.
- Participate in batch changeover and color flush procedures to minimize downtime and reduce product loss during production transitions.
- Support in-process training and onboarding of new operators on safe operation, recipe execution, cleaning protocols and quality expectations to ensure consistent handovers between shifts.
- Communicate production status, quality issues and safety incidents clearly during shift handovers and daily production meetings to maintain continuity and accountability across teams.
- Implement 5S and continuous improvement activities on the shop floor to optimize workflow, reduce waste, and improve production efficiency and housekeeping.
- Assist Quality and R&D teams with pilot runs, sample builds and small-batch formulation trials by setting up equipment to specified parameters and recording results.
- Ensure compliance with GMP/ISO standards and support internal and external audits by providing accurate batch records, maintenance logs and evidence of corrective actions.
- Safely operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks and forklifts (when certified) to move raw materials and finished goods in accordance with site rules and traffic controls.
- Report and document near-misses, non-conformances and corrective actions; participate in root cause analysis and implement agreed corrective or preventive measures.
Secondary Functions
- Support inventory reconciliation and cycle counts for pigments, solvents and additives; assist purchasing with reorder notifications for critical materials.
- Help maintain calibration records and schedule for scales, spectrophotometers, viscometers and other measurement devices used in production and QC.
- Participate in cross-functional improvement projects (6S, Kaizen, waste reduction) to enhance throughput, reduce rework and improve on-time delivery metrics.
- Prepare and label samples for external lab testing and coordinate courier or internal transport to the quality laboratory.
- Maintain and update SOPs, batch sheets and work instructions to reflect changes in equipment, recipes or regulatory requirements.
- Assist with spill response, containment and cleanup following company EHS protocols and notify the appropriate managers and safety personnel.
- Support seasonal production planning by adjusting work sequences and resource allocation to meet fluctuating demand for seasonal coatings and colors.
- Provide input to management on equipment upgrades, spare parts stocking levels and capital improvement needs to reduce downtime and increase reliability.
