Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Direct, mentor, and supervise a dedicated team of maintenance technicians, mechanics, and electricians, overseeing daily work assignments and ensuring tasks are executed with a high degree of safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Develop, implement, and refine comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all critical machinery and facility systems to drastically reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment lifecycle.
  • Champion and rigorously enforce all company safety protocols and government regulations (e.g., OSHA, LOTO, Arc Flash), conducting regular safety audits, toolbox talks, and thorough incident investigations to cultivate a zero-harm work environment.
  • Act as the primary technical expert for troubleshooting complex failures in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, guiding the team through effective root cause analysis to implement lasting solutions.
  • Manage the complete work order lifecycle within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), from creation and prioritization to assignment and detailed closure, ensuring accurate data capture for future analysis.
  • Oversee the maintenance spare parts inventory, managing stock levels, identifying critical spares, and coordinating with procurement to ensure parts availability while controlling costs.
  • Provide direct, hands-on support to the maintenance team for complex repairs, installations, and fabrication tasks, leading by example and sharing technical knowledge.
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance activities around production schedules to minimize operational disruptions, collaborating closely with production supervisors and planners.
  • Evaluate the performance of maintenance technicians, providing regular, constructive feedback, identifying training needs, and facilitating professional development opportunities to build a high-performance team.
  • Prepare and analyze key maintenance metrics and KPIs (e.g., MTTR, MTBF, PM compliance, downtime), generating regular reports for management to demonstrate departmental performance and identify improvement areas.
  • Manage and oversee the work of third-party contractors and vendors, ensuring they adhere to site safety standards and deliver work that meets quality and budget requirements.
  • Lead or actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives, such as Kaizen events, 5S programs, and Lean Manufacturing projects, to enhance maintenance processes and overall plant efficiency.
  • Assist in the development and management of the annual maintenance budget, tracking expenditures and identifying opportunities for cost savings without compromising on safety or reliability.
  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment and the facility to identify potential hazards, deteriorating conditions, or areas needing repair before they become significant issues.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for key maintenance tasks to ensure consistency and quality.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • CMMS Proficiency: Advanced skills in using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo, Fiix, UpKeep) for work order management, asset tracking, and reporting.
  • System Diagnostics: Expert-level ability to troubleshoot and repair complex industrial systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyor systems, and 3-phase electrical power.
  • Technical Drawing Interpretation: Full proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical manuals.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Proven ability to lead and apply structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams) to diagnose and eliminate recurring equipment failures.
  • PLC & Automation Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) for troubleshooting automated equipment and control systems.
  • Safety Program Management: Deep understanding and practical application of OSHA standards, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and other critical industrial safety procedures.
  • Predictive Maintenance (PdM) Technologies: Familiarity with predictive tools and techniques such as vibration analysis, thermal imaging, and oil analysis.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or GED, coupled with significant on-the-job experience.

Preferred Education:

Associate's Degree or technical certification from a trade school. A certified apprenticeship in a relevant trade (e.g., Millwright, Industrial Electrician) is highly regarded.

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range:

A minimum of 5-8 years of progressive experience in an industrial maintenance setting, with at least 2-3 of those years serving in a lead technician, supervisory, or team leadership capacity.

Experience within a 24/7 manufacturing, food and beverage, or heavy industrial environment is strongly preferred. Experience leading projects and driving continuous improvement initiatives is a significant asset.
