Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Direct and coordinate the daily activities of the production and operating team, delegating assignments to ensure production schedules are met and resources are allocated effectively.
- Champion a safety-first culture by enforcing all corporate safety procedures, conducting regular safety audits, and ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing production team, conducting performance reviews, providing coaching, and facilitating training to enhance skills and engagement.
- Monitor and manage production floor performance, tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), scrap rates, and labor efficiency.
- Ensure all products meet or exceed established quality standards by implementing and overseeing quality control processes and collaborating with the Quality Assurance department.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies like Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Kaizen to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and optimize workflows.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production bottlenecks, equipment malfunctions, and process issues in real-time to minimize downtime and maintain operational flow.
- Manage employee schedules, including shift assignments, overtime allocation, and time-off requests, to ensure adequate staffing levels for all production runs.
- Conduct regular team meetings and shift-start huddles to communicate daily goals, safety alerts, and company updates, ensuring clear and consistent communication.
- Maintain accurate and timely production records, logs, and reports using ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and other manufacturing software.
- Investigate and document all workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to coordinate preventative maintenance schedules and address urgent equipment repairs, minimizing impact on production.
- Manage the inventory of raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods on the production floor to prevent shortages and excesses.
- Uphold and enforce company policies and procedures consistently and fairly across the entire team, addressing any disciplinary issues in a professional and timely manner.
Secondary Functions
- Support the onboarding and training of new hires, ensuring they are fully competent in their roles, safety protocols, and quality expectations.
- Participate in budget planning and manage operational expenses to control costs and operate within the approved departmental budget.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new manufacturing processes, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work instructions.
- Liaise with other departments, including engineering, supply chain, and quality, to ensure seamless cross-functional collaboration and problem-solving.
- Lead or contribute to special projects aimed at improving operational efficiency, implementing new technology, or launching new products.
- Generate and present regular performance reports to senior management, highlighting trends, challenges, and improvement opportunities.
