Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Conduct comprehensive pre-purchase, on-hire, and off-hire condition surveys on a wide range of vessels to assess их structural integrity, machinery condition, and overall operational readiness.

Execute precise draft surveys and ullage/sounding surveys on tankers and bulk carriers to independently calculate and verify cargo quantities.
Assess and audit a vessel's compliance with international maritime regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS) and the rules of ведущие classification societies.
Prepare exceptionally detailed, impartial, and technically accurate survey reports, complete with photographic evidence, diagrams, and supporting documentation, for use in claims and legal proceedings.

Investigate claims of cargo contamination, shortage, or damage by collecting samples, securing evidence, and analyzing the chain of custody.

Review, advise on, and approve repair specifications, subsequently monitoring the quality and cost-effectiveness of all repair work performed.
Perform vessel valuations for a variety of purposes, including pre-sale, financing, and insurance coverage assessments.
Act as a key liaison, communicating technical findings and providing expert advice to shipowners, charterers, legal counsel, port authorities, and underwriters.
Carry out bunker quantity and quality (on/off-hire) surveys to verify the quantity and specifications of fuel and a/o on board.
Inspect cargo holds, tanks, and other spaces for cleanliness and overall suitability to load a designated cargo.
Review and verify the validity of a vessel's statutory and classification certificates, ensuring they are in order for the intended voyage.
Provide expert technical testimony in legal arbitrations or court proceedings related to maritime disputes.
Perform audits of a vessel’s Safety Management System (SMS) to ensure it is being effectively implemented on board as per the ISM Code.
Inspect and assess the condition and suitability of port and terminal facilities for planned vessel operations.

Secondary Functions

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Deep, practical knowledge of naval architecture, marine engineering, ship construction, and stability principles.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

A Bachelor's degree in a relevant maritime field OR an equivalent combination of education and extensive seagoing experience as a senior officer (Master or Chief Engineer) holding a top-level Certificate of Competency.

Preferred Education:

Master's Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline.
Professional chartership or registration (e.g., CEng, IMarEng) with a recognized engineering institution.
