Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute the complete assembly of luxury leather goods (handbags, small leather goods) from initial pattern pieces to the final product, ensuring a seamless "table-work" process.
  • Perform highly precise cutting of various premium leathers (e.g., calfskin, lambskin, exotic skins) using manual cutting knives and, where applicable, automated cutting machines, maximizing material yield and respecting grain direction.
  • Master and apply a range of traditional and modern stitching techniques, including hand-executed saddle stitching and precision machine sewing, to ensure both aesthetic perfection and structural integrity.
  • Conduct all preparatory stages of leather crafting, including skiving (paring) edges to the correct thickness, applying adhesives, and precisely folding and creasing components.

  • Conduct rigorous and continuous self-assessment and quality control at every step of the manufacturing process to identify and rectify any imperfections, upholding the Maison's stringent standards.
  • Interpret and work from complex technical dossiers, blueprints, and assembly diagrams to understand and flawlessly execute the construction of new and existing models.
  • Collaborate closely with the prototyping and design teams, providing expert artisan feedback on the feasibility of new designs and suggesting construction improvements.
  • Maintain a pristine, organized, and safe personal workspace, taking responsibility for the care, calibration, and maintenance of all assigned tools and machinery.
  • Participate actively in workshop continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, 5S), suggesting enhancements to processes, tools, or techniques to boost efficiency and quality.
  • Select and meticulously inspect raw leather hides and other materials, identifying and flagging any natural defects or inconsistencies that could compromise the final product's quality.
  • Perform delicate finishing operations, including final cleaning, polishing hardware, conditioning the leather, and preparing the finished item for final inspection and packaging.
  • Manage the traceability of each product, meticulously documenting production steps and materials used for quality assurance and authentication purposes.
  • Adhere to established production timelines and objectives without ever compromising the exceptional level of quality and detail required for each piece.
  • Act as a mentor and guide for apprentices and newer artisans, generously sharing knowledge and transmitting the invaluable "savoir-faire" of the craft.
  • Perform specialized tasks such as hot stamping, embossing, or personalizing items with extreme precision and care.
  • Handle a variety of materials beyond leather, including coated canvas, precious textiles, and innovative composites as specified by product designs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to deconstruct and repair or restore damaged products, requiring a deep understanding of original construction methods.

  • Machine Sewing: High proficiency with industrial sewing machines for leather, including flat-bed and post-bed types.
  • Leather Cutting: Precision cutting skills using a clicker press, rotary cutter, and, most importantly, a traditional straight knife.
  • Skiving/Paring: Expertise in thinning leather edges to precise thicknesses using a bell skiver or by hand.
  • Edge Finishing: Ability to perform high-end edge painting (filetage), creasing, and burnishing.
  • Material Knowledge: Deep understanding of the properties of different leathers (calf, goat, exotic skins) and their appropriate use.
