Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Oversee the entire project lifecycle from initial conception and feasibility studies through to detailed design, procurement, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and final handover.
  • Develop, maintain, and rigorously manage comprehensive project plans, including detailed schedules, Gantt charts, resource allocation, and critical path analysis using software like MS Project.
  • Define and control project scope, objectives, and technical specifications in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external clients to ensure all requirements are met.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, providing accurate cost estimates, tracking expenditures, and implementing cost-control measures to ensure financial objectives are achieved.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison between design teams, manufacturing departments, suppliers, contractors, and customers, ensuring clear and consistent communication.
  • Lead the procurement and qualification of mechanical components, equipment, and vendor services, including negotiating contracts and managing supplier relationships.
  • Conduct thorough design reviews (e.g., PDR, CDR) to ensure that mechanical designs are robust, manufacturable, and compliant with all project requirements and industry standards.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, including technical, financial, and logistical challenges, by developing and implementing effective risk management plans.
  • Coordinate and lead project team meetings, providing clear status updates, action items, and progress reports to team members and senior management.
  • Ensure all project activities and deliverables adhere to relevant industry codes, safety regulations (e.g., OSHA), and quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
  • Manage the creation and maintenance of all project documentation, including technical drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), test procedures, and final reports.
  • Supervise and support the on-site installation, integration, and commissioning of mechanical systems, troubleshooting issues as they arise to minimize delays.
  • Develop detailed test plans and oversee factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) to validate system performance against design specifications.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by conducting post-project reviews (lessons learned) and applying findings to optimize future project execution processes.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling technical presentations and detailed progress reports for a diverse audience, including executive leadership, clients, and technical teams.
  • Resolve complex technical and logistical conflicts that arise between different functional groups, ensuring project momentum is maintained.
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques and change control procedures.

  • CAD/CAE Proficiency: Advanced skill in 2D/3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Creo) for design review, modification, and analysis.
  • Project Management Software: Expertise in using tools like MS Project, Jira, or similar platforms for scheduling, tracking, and resource management.
  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T): Strong understanding and ability to interpret and apply GD&T principles to engineering drawings.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Familiarity with FEA principles and software (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus) for stress, thermal, and vibration analysis.

  • Budgeting & Cost Estimation: Proven ability to develop accurate cost estimates, create budgets, and perform financial tracking for complex projects.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., ASME, ANSI, ISO, OSHA).
  • Root Cause Analysis: Proficiency in structured problem-solving methodologies like 5 Whys, Fishbone (Ishikawa) diagrams, or Fault Tree Analysis.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

  • Master of Science (M.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or a Master's in Engineering Management.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
