Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Safely operate a company-provided vehicle to transport patients with varying mobility levels to and from medical appointments, rehabilitation centers, and hospitals.
- Provide compassionate door-to-door or curb-to-curb assistance, ensuring patients are safely escorted and handed off at their destination.
- Expertly assist passengers with mobility challenges, including ambulatory, wheelchair, and stretcher-bound individuals, using proper lifting, transferring, and securement techniques.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and empathy, fostering a safe, comfortable, and dignified experience for all passengers throughout their journey.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, checking fluid levels, tire pressure, brakes, lights, and all safety equipment to ensure the vehicle is in safe operating condition.
- Promptly report any vehicle malfunctions, defects, damages, or necessary repairs to the dispatch and fleet management team to ensure fleet readiness.
- Uphold strict cleanliness and sanitation standards for the vehicle's interior and exterior, providing a hygienic environment for medically fragile passengers.
- Adhere rigorously to all traffic laws, regulations, and company safety policies to ensure the safety of passengers, yourself, and the public.
- Utilize GPS navigation and mobile dispatching software to follow optimized routes, manage schedules, and communicate real-time status updates to the dispatch team.
- Accurately and diligently complete trip logs, passenger manifests, vehicle inspection reports, and other required documentation in compliance with company and regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA).
- Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, family members, caregivers, and healthcare facility staff to coordinate pickups, drop-offs, and address any special needs or concerns.
- Handle all Protected Health Information (PHI) with the utmost confidentiality and discretion, strictly adhering to all HIPAA privacy and security rules.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the operation of specialized equipment, including hydraulic wheelchair lifts, ramps, gurneys, and multi-point securement systems.
- Respond calmly and professionally to unexpected situations such as traffic delays, vehicle breakdowns, or passenger medical distress, following established emergency protocols.
- Administer basic First Aid or CPR as trained and required in an emergency situation, pending the arrival of emergency medical services.
- Ensure all required onboard safety equipment, such as first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and spill kits, is present, accessible, and in good working order.
- Manage daily passenger schedules, confirming appointment details and pickup times to ensure on-time performance and route efficiency.
