Primary Functions
- Develop and execute comprehensive, multi-season merchandise strategies that align with the company's financial targets, brand positioning, and growth objectives.
- Curate and manage the full product assortment lifecycle, from initial concept and line planning through to in-season management and end-of-life-cycle strategies like markdowns and promotions.
- Conduct deep-dive analysis of historical sales data, market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive landscapes to identify new product opportunities and potential risks.
- Formulate detailed assortment plans by category, style, and SKU level, ensuring they support key business drivers and deliver on both revenue and margin goals.
- Lead open-to-buy (OTB) management in partnership with the planning team to optimize inventory levels, manage receipts, and maximize stock turn.
- Establish and manage a strategic pricing architecture for all products, balancing competitive positioning with the need to achieve gross margin targets.
- Forge and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with cross-functional partners, including Buying, Design, Planning, Marketing, and Visual Merchandising, to ensure a cohesive go-to-market strategy.
- Direct the in-season management of the business, actively trading the collection by analyzing weekly sales performance and making data-driven decisions to chase opportunities and mitigate risks.
- Present seasonal merchandise strategies, assortment frameworks, and business results to senior leadership and key stakeholders in formal review meetings.
- Guide and mentor a team of assistant/associate merchandisers and buyers, fostering their professional development and building a high-performance team culture.
- Partner with marketing and e-commerce teams to develop compelling product stories and campaigns that drive customer engagement and conversion.
- Oversee vendor relationships and negotiations to secure favorable terms, ensure product quality, and manage on-time deliveries.
- Analyze product performance metrics including sales velocity, gross margin, sell-through rates, and customer ratings to inform future assortment decisions.
- Lead the planning and execution of key promotional events and seasonal markdowns to drive traffic and effectively clear through aging inventory.
- Conduct regular store visits and/or digital site walks to gain firsthand insight into product performance, customer feedback, and the competitive environment.
- Champion product innovation and continuously seek out new trends, materials, and product categories to keep the brand's assortment fresh and relevant.
- Prepare and manage the departmental budget, ensuring all merchandising activities are conducted within financial parameters.
- Develop and implement robust reporting frameworks and dashboards to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide actionable insights to the wider business.
- Ensure the online and in-store presentation of products is aligned with the overall merchandising vision and brand standards, working closely with visual and site merchandising teams.
