Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute residential and commercial moves from origin to destination safely and on schedule, ensuring zero or minimal damage to customer property and company assets.

  • Load and unload moving trucks efficiently using blocking, bracing and weight distribution best practices to prevent cargo shifting during transport.
  • Inspect and document the condition of items before and after the move; complete inventory checklists, damage reports and customer sign-offs accurately and promptly.
  • Operate company vehicles and moving trucks in a safe, lawful manner; adhere to posted routes, delivery windows and DOT regulations as applicable.
  • Communicate professionally and empathetically with customers throughout the moving process: arrival notices, progress updates, and post-move follow-up to ensure satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with crew members and the moving foreman to sequence items for efficient loading/unloading and unpacking at delivery site.
  • Execute specialty moving tasks such as piano moves, fine art handling, pool table moves, and large appliance relocations using appropriate rigging and hoisting techniques.
  • Provide packing services on-site when required: full packing, fragile-only packing, and unpacking services, ensuring items are labeled and organized for easy set-up at destination.
  • Secure and strap cargo inside vehicles to prevent movement; apply tarps and tie-downs and verify all doors and gates are latched before transit.
  • Follow company safety protocols including PPE usage, lift team coordination, hazard identification and reporting, and participation in pre-job safety briefings.
  • Collect payments, confirm billing details, and complete job paperwork accurately, including time logs, mileage, and additional service charges.
  • Assist with scheduling and dispatch communication by confirming arrival times and any on-site access or parking constraints with operations staff.
  • Perform basic vehicle and equipment inspections and maintenance checks (tire pressure, straps, dollies, lift-gate operation) and report defects for repair.
  • Manage on-site inventory for storage and staging areas: label, tag, and store customer materials and company supplies in an organized, retrievable way.
  • Adapt to last-minute changes in job scope, including additional stops, changed access points, or new customer requests, while preserving schedule integrity.
  • Uphold professional appearance and company branding standards during customer interactions and while representing the company off-site.
  • Participate in training sessions and on-the-job coaching to improve packing, handling, driving and customer service skills.
  • Assist in loading and unloading storage facilities and warehouse staging areas, ensuring goods are accurately logged and placed by storage requirements.
  • Enforce parking and building access rules while minimizing disruption to customers and neighbors during move-in/out operations.
  • Handle special materials and hazardous items according to policy (flammables, aerosols, batteries) by following company and regulatory disposal or transport guidance.
  • Mentor and train new movers on safe-handling techniques, packing best practices, customer interaction and company procedures as assigned.

Secondary Functions

  • Support inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies between physical loads and job manifests.
  • Maintain stock levels of moving supplies (boxes, tape, wrap, blankets) and submit replenishment requests as needed.
  • Assist operations with routing feedback and on-road time estimates to improve future scheduling and ETA accuracy.
