Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead the architectural design, implementation, and support of complex, multi-vendor network solutions encompassing LAN, WAN, WLAN, data center, SD-WAN, and public/private cloud environments.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of client network infrastructures to identify performance bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities, and areas for strategic improvement, presenting findings and recommendations to executive stakeholders.
  • Develop and present detailed High-Level Designs (HLD) and Low-Level Designs (LLD), along with implementation plans, test plans, and bills of materials for client approval.
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact and trusted advisor for clients, managing expectations, providing expert guidance, and ensuring project objectives are met on time and within budget.
  • Architect, deploy, and manage advanced network security solutions, including next-generation firewalls (NGFW), intrusion prevention systems (IPS), VPNs, and Network Access Control (NAC) platforms like Cisco ISE or Aruba ClearPass.
  • Plan and execute large-scale network migrations, such as data center consolidations, cloud integrations (AWS, Azure), or transitions to SD-WAN fabrics, ensuring minimal business disruption.
  • Serve as the highest escalation point for troubleshooting and resolving mission-critical network issues, performing in-depth root cause analysis to develop permanent solutions.
  • Provide expert-level guidance on dynamic routing protocols, including BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP, in complex, large-scale enterprise and service provider environments.
  • Design and implement highly available and resilient network infrastructures by leveraging redundancy, failover mechanisms, and robust disaster recovery strategies.
  • Lead client-facing workshops and discovery sessions to thoroughly understand and document business and technical requirements, translating them into scalable and future-proof network architectures.
  • Automate routine network provisioning, configuration, and monitoring tasks using scripting languages like Python and automation frameworks such as Ansible.
  • Optimize network performance and user experience through the implementation of Quality of Service (QoS) policies, traffic shaping, and leveraging advanced network monitoring and analytics tools.
  • Design and deploy robust enterprise wireless solutions (Wi-Fi 6/6E), conducting site surveys and spectrum analysis to ensure optimal coverage, performance, and security.
  • Evaluate emerging networking technologies, vendors, and industry trends to provide clients with forward-thinking recommendations and maintain a competitive advantage.
  • Provide strong technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, client IT staff, and project team members, fostering a culture of technical excellence and knowledge sharing.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including detailed network diagrams, configuration standards, and operational runbooks for seamless client hand-off.
  • Design and configure public cloud networking components within AWS (VPCs, Direct Connect, Transit Gateway) and Azure (VNets, ExpressRoute, Virtual WAN).
  • Configure and manage advanced load balancing solutions (e.g., F5 BIG-IP LTM/GTM, Citrix ADC) to ensure application availability and performance.
  • Lead the technical response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Quotes (RFQs), developing solution narratives and effort estimations.
  • Interface with various technology teams, including server, storage, security, and application groups, to ensure holistic solution design and successful project delivery.

Secondary Functions

  • Support pre-sales activities by serving as a technical expert during client meetings and solution demonstrations.
  • Contribute to the development and curation of internal knowledge bases, best practice documents, and reusable design templates.
  • Collaborate with business development teams to create compelling proposals and detailed Statements of Work (SOWs).
  • Participate in industry conferences, webinars, and training to maintain an expert-level understanding of the technology landscape.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Advanced Routing & Switching: Expert-level knowledge of enterprise-grade routing (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and switching (VLANs, STP, LACP) in multi-vendor environments (Cisco, Arista, Juniper).
  • SD-WAN Technologies: Proven experience designing and deploying SD-WAN solutions such as Cisco Viptela, Silver Peak, VMware VeloCloud, or Fortinet SD-WAN.
  • Cloud Networking: Strong proficiency in designing and managing network infrastructure in public cloud platforms (AWS VPC, Azure VNet, Google Cloud VPC, and interconnectivity services like Direct Connect/ExpressRoute).
  • Next-Generation Firewalls: Hands-on experience with firewall policy management, threat prevention, and VPN configuration on platforms like Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, or Cisco ASA/FTD.
  • Network Automation & Scripting: Proficiency in scripting with Python and using automation tools like Ansible for network configuration and management.
  • Network Access Control (NAC): Experience implementing and managing NAC solutions, particularly Cisco ISE or Aruba ClearPass, for policy enforcement and device authentication.
  • Load Balancing: Deep understanding and practical experience with application delivery controllers such as F5 BIG-IP (LTM/GTM) or Citrix ADC (NetScaler).
  • Enterprise Wireless: Expertise in designing, deploying, and troubleshooting large-scale Wi-Fi networks using solutions from Cisco, Aruba, or Meraki.
  • Network Analysis & Monitoring: Mastery of packet analysis tools (Wireshark) and experience with network performance monitoring platforms (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, ThousandEyes).
  • Technical Documentation: Ability to produce high-quality High-Level Design (HLD), Low-Level Design (LLD), and As-Built documentation.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of extensive professional experience and advanced industry certifications.
  • Key certifications such as Cisco CCNP/CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE, or equivalent are highly valued.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Telecommunications Engineering.
  • Advanced certifications such as CCIE (Enterprise Infrastructure, Security), PCNSE, or AWS/Azure networking specialties.
