Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Develop and maintain end-to-end business cases for new initiatives, including clearly articulated objectives, scope, timelines, and assumptions to support approval and funding decisions.
- Build detailed financial models (cash flows, NPV, IRR, payback, and sensitivity/scenario analyses) to quantify costs, benefits, ROI and break-even points for proposed investments.
- Prepare executive summaries, slide decks and one-page decision memos that synthesize complex financial and non-financial analysis into concise recommendations for governance committees.
- Coordinate cross-functional input (finance, product, engineering, legal, procurement, operations) to ensure business cases include validated cost estimates, resource plans and implementation constraints.
- Manage the business case intake and prioritization process, maintaining a central pipeline and tracking status, gating, and funding decisions across the portfolio.
- Facilitate governance and investment review meetings by preparing agendas, presenting business-case highlights, capturing decisions and executing follow-up actions.
- Validate cost and benefit assumptions by reconciling vendor quotes, work breakdown structures, historical delivery data and subject matter expert inputs.
- Create, update and enforce standardized business case templates, guardrails, and benefit realization criteria to ensure consistency across business units.
- Conduct post-implementation benefit realization reviews and variance analysis, comparing actual outcomes to projected benefits and recommending corrective actions where required.
- Maintain comprehensive records and version control for all business case documentation, assumptions, approvals and change logs in the approved repository or lifecycle tool.
- Perform sensitivity and scenario analyses to quantify downside and upside risk and inform risk-adjusted prioritization and contingency planning.
- Translate strategic priorities into measurable KPIs and benefits metrics, and define monitoring plans and reporting cadence for ongoing governance.
- Support financial planning by feeding approved business cases into CAPEX/OPEX forecasts, rolling forecasts and long-range planning models.
- Liaise with internal audit and compliance teams to ensure business cases adhere to internal controls, funding policies and regulatory requirements.
- Track interdependencies and resource constraints across multiple proposals, identifying bottlenecks and escalation points to keep the intake pipeline on schedule.
- Provide hands-on support to project managers during the transition from approval to delivery, ensuring the scope, benefits baseline, and acceptance criteria are clearly handed over.
- Drive continuous improvement by analyzing the success rate of past business cases, capturing lessons learned, and updating templates and training materials accordingly.
- Build and maintain stakeholder maps and communications plans to secure executive sponsorship and cross-functional alignment for priority initiatives.
- Conduct market research, benchmarking and competitive analysis where required to validate revenue assumptions, pricing impacts or market size estimates.
- Negotiate or coordinate negotiations with vendors and cost owners to obtain realistic quotes, SLAs and payment terms for inclusion in business case financials.
- Implement and maintain automated dashboards and visualizations (Power BI, Tableau, Excel) to provide real-time portfolio status, benefit tracking and decision metrics.
- Ensure all business case approvals, funding releases and contracting milestones are executed in accordance with procurement and finance policies.
- Identify and escalate risks, issues and assumptions that materially change the investment case, recommending re-scoping, re-baselining or de-funding as appropriate.
