Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Perform and document comprehensive patient assessments, including the regular monitoring, interpretation, and reporting of vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, respirations, oxygen saturation).
- Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as bathing, grooming, dressing, ambulation, and feeding, while promoting patient independence and dignity.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments as delegated by and under the direct supervision of the supervising Registered Nurse, ensuring adherence to the "five rights" of medication administration.
- Observe, document, and promptly report any changes in a patient's physical, mental, or emotional condition to the charge nurse and primary RN.
- Provide direct patient care, including wound dressing changes, catheter care, and glucose monitoring, following established protocols and sterile techniques.
- Develop foundational critical thinking skills by actively participating in care planning and collaborating with the RN to prioritize patient needs on the night shift.
- Ensure a safe patient environment by conducting regular rounds, responding promptly to call lights, and implementing fall prevention and safety protocols.
- Accurately and thoroughly document all care provided, patient observations, and interventions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) in a timely manner.
- Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients and their families, providing emotional support and basic education regarding their care plan.
- Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge processes, including patient orientation to the unit, inventory of personal belongings, and coordination of transport.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, therapists, and support staff, to ensure cohesive and comprehensive patient care.
- Participate actively in shift hand-off reports, ensuring a seamless and safe transition of care between outgoing and incoming nursing staff.
- Reinforce patient and family education on disease processes, treatment plans, and post-discharge instructions as initiated by the Registered Nurse.
- Manage and maintain medical equipment, ensuring it is clean, in proper working order, and readily available for patient care needs.
- Uphold strict adherence to all hospital policies, procedures, and infection control standards to maintain a safe and sterile environment for all.
Secondary Functions
- Assist in maintaining adequate stocking of medical supplies, linens, and nourishment in patient rooms and on the unit.
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives and data collection efforts as assigned by nursing leadership.
- Shadow Registered Nurses during complex procedures and critical patient events to enhance clinical understanding and learning.
- Attend mandatory in-service training sessions and educational workshops to further develop professional nursing competencies.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification: Current certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or equivalent is required.
- Vital Signs Assessment: Proficiency in accurately measuring and interpreting blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, and oxygen saturation.

Minimum Education:

- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.
- Recent graduate of an accredited nursing program who is eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam.

Experience Requirements
