Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Direct and coordinate all activities of the night shift production team to consistently meet or exceed production schedules and stringent quality standards.
  • Champion and rigorously enforce all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies to cultivate a secure, compliant, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Continuously monitor workflow and operational performance, proactively identifying potential bottlenecks and implementing immediate corrective actions to optimize efficiency and throughput.
  • Provide visible, hands-on leadership, coaching, and mentorship to all team members, actively fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Manage employee performance through constructive, regular feedback, the execution of formal performance reviews, and the implementation of targeted individual development plans.
  • Conduct engaging and informative pre-shift meetings to clearly communicate daily production goals, critical safety topics, and pertinent company updates to the entire night crew.
  • Thoroughly investigate, document, and report all workplace accidents, incidents, or near-misses, and lead root cause analysis efforts to implement preventative measures.
  • Maintain and distribute accurate, detailed shift-end reports summarizing key metrics, including production output, equipment downtime, staffing challenges, and maintenance needs.
  • Collaborate effectively with maintenance personnel to troubleshoot equipment failures in real-time and help coordinate preventative maintenance schedules to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Guarantee the consistent application of quality control procedures across the shift, performing regular spot checks and process audits to ensure all products meet exact specifications.
  • Manage all aspects of employee scheduling for the shift, including daily work assignments, cross-training initiatives, absences, and overtime allocation to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Address and resolve employee relations issues, interpersonal conflicts, and grievances in a timely, fair, and professional manner, escalating to Human Resources when appropriate.
  • Oversee the comprehensive training and onboarding of new night shift employees, ensuring they are fully competent in their roles and deeply understand all safety procedures.
  • Actively drive and take ownership of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), scrap rates, and on-time delivery for the entire shift.
  • Lead and enthusiastically participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including 5S workplace organization, Kaizen events, and other Lean Manufacturing projects to reduce waste.
  • Manage the on-floor inventory of raw materials and work-in-progress, ensuring accurate system transactions and implementing strategies to minimize material waste.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and empowered decision-maker for all operational, safety, or personnel issues that arise during the overnight hours.
  • Facilitate clear, effective communication and a thorough hand-off of information between the night shift and the incoming day shift to ensure a seamless operational transition.
  • Uphold facility security and operational integrity during off-peak hours, serving as the designated leader and first responder for any alarms or emergency situations.
  • Conduct regular Gemba walks on the production floor to observe processes firsthand, engage directly with employees, and identify tangible opportunities for improvement.
  • Authorize and oversee any necessary rework or reprocessing of non-conforming products, ensuring strict adherence to established quality guidelines and documentation practices.
  • Foster a team-oriented environment that encourages open communication, collaboration, and a shared commitment to achieving the shift's collective goals.
