Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Receive incoming shipments, verify quantities and condition of goods against purchase orders and packing lists, and immediately report discrepancies or damaged product to the supervisor to prevent inventory errors.

  • Replenish sales floor shelves, gondolas, and displays according to planograms and merchandising standards, ensuring products face forward, are shelf-ready, and that presentation meets retailer brand guidelines.
  • Rotate product using FIFO/LIFO (as required) and manage expiration dates for perishable items to reduce waste and shrink, removing expired or damaged goods from saleable inventory.
  • Price and label merchandise accurately using handheld printers and pricing guns, ensuring price integrity and compliance with promotional signage and markdown procedures.
  • Assemble and set floor-ready displays, signage, and promotional endcaps overnight so that marketing initiatives and weekly promotions are live at store opening.
  • Break down cartons, flatten boxes, and organize recyclables and waste for removal according to store sustainability and safety procedures to maintain an orderly workspace.
  • Conduct cyclical inventory counts and assist with scheduled physical inventories, reconciling discrepancies and escalating inventory variances to the inventory manager.
  • Verify and re-label shelf tags and point-of-sale pricing to eliminate pricing mismatches that can cause customer dissatisfaction and losses at checkout.
  • Stage excess or seasonal inventory in backstock areas following organization standards to enable efficient retrieval and minimize misplacement.
  • Assist with product transfers between departments or stores, preparing shipment documentation and ensuring proper packing to preserve product condition.
  • Perform nightly cleaning and maintenance tasks in stockroom and sales-floor back areas, including sweeping aisles, clearing obstructions, and ensuring emergency exits and walkways remain accessible.
  • Monitor product quality and presentation; isolate and report unsafe or unsellable merchandise immediately to reduce customer complaints and maintain brand standards.
  • Utilize mobile devices and store management systems to log completed tasks, update replenishment status, and communicate any blockers to the overnight lead or morning management team.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures at all times, including proper lifting techniques, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and adherence to hazardous-material handling rules.
  • Collaborate with receiving, merchandising, and store management teams to prioritize stocking tasks based on upcoming promotions, inventory levels, and sales goals.
  • Proactively flag low-stock and fast-selling items through inventory alerts or suggested reorder lists to reduce out-of-stock occurrences and maximize sales.
  • Train and mentor new overnight associates on standard operating procedures, safe equipment operation, and merchandising expectations to ensure consistency across shifts.
  • Complete end-of-shift reports detailing stock levels, incidents, and completion status of assigned runs to enable a smooth transition to daytime operations.
  • Respond to after-hours operational issues—such as inventory discrepancies, minor equipment malfunctions, or security concerns—by following escalation protocols and documenting actions taken.
