Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive learning needs assessments for individuals, departments, and the organization to identify knowledge gaps and guide the development of targeted educational initiatives.

  • Collaborate with nursing leadership and unit-based champions to integrate evidence-based practice and research findings into clinical standards and daily patient care.
  • Mentor and support the professional growth of nurses, from novice to expert, by providing coaching, constructive feedback, and guidance on career advancement and specialty certification.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of preceptor development programs to cultivate a strong network of skilled mentors for new staff.
  • Actively participate in or lead committees related to practice, quality, patient safety, and education, providing expert educational input and facilitating practice changes.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all educational activities, including attendance, evaluations, and competency validation, to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, ANCC).
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of educational programs on clinical practice and patient outcomes through data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Function as an expert clinical resource, providing just-in-time education and consultation to staff on complex patient care issues and the use of new equipment or technologies.
  • Stay current with advancements in nursing, healthcare technology, and educational methodologies to ensure all learning programs are relevant and cutting-edge.

  • National certification such as Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) or Nursing Professional Development Certification (NPD-BC).

Experience Requirements
