Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Deliver high-quality, inclusive care and education, ensuring the emotional, social, and physical well-being of all children in your care.
- Implement the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum through engaging, age-appropriate activities that stimulate curiosity and learning.
- Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and stimulating indoor and outdoor environment where children are encouraged to explore and develop their independence.
- Actively supervise children during all activities, including mealtimes, sleep times, and both structured and free play, to ensure their constant safety.
- Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with children, parents, and colleagues, fostering a sense of community and trust.
- Support children's personal care routines with dignity and respect, including nappy changing, potty training, and hand washing.
- Observe, assess, and record children's developmental milestones, contributing to their individual learning journeys and sharing insights with the core team.
- Manage and guide children's behaviour in a positive and constructive manner, in line with the nursery's behaviour management policy.
- Promote healthy lifestyles by assisting with the preparation and serving of nutritious snacks and meals, encouraging good eating habits.
- Engage children in creative and imaginative play, including storytelling, music, arts and crafts, and physical activities.
- Ensure the nursery environment is kept clean, hygienic, and organized, carrying out cleaning duties as required throughout the day.
- Provide a warm and secure emotional environment that is sensitive to the individual needs of each child, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
- Communicate effectively with parents and carers, providing them with professional and friendly feedback on their child's day.
Secondary Functions
- Support Key Workers by contributing to observations and daily record-keeping for their designated key children.
- Assist in the setup and tidying away of resources and learning environments before and after activities.
- Adhere rigorously to all nursery policies and procedures, with a particular focus on safeguarding, health and safety, and confidentiality.
- Report any safeguarding concerns immediately and accurately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead, following established protocols.
- Participate in staff meetings or training sessions where possible and appropriate for bank staff, contributing to continuous professional development.
- Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to work across different rooms and with various age groups as directed by nursery management.
- Ensure all equipment and resources are handled, maintained, and stored correctly to guarantee their safety and longevity.
- Accurately document any accidents, incidents, or administration of medication according to nursery guidelines.
Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- EYFS Framework: A strong and demonstrable understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and its practical implementation.
- Childcare Qualification: A minimum of a Level 2 or 3 qualification in Childcare, Early Years, or a related field (e.g., CACHE, NNEB, NVQ).
- Safeguarding Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of current child protection and safeguarding legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Paediatric First Aid: A valid Paediatric First Aid certificate is highly desirable.

Education & Experience
Educational Background
Minimum Education:
A recognized Level 2 qualification in Childcare and Early Years Education (or equivalent), or significant demonstrable experience working in an early years setting.

A recognized Level 3 or higher qualification in Childcare and Early Years Education (e.g., Diploma for the Early Years Workforce).
