Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute daily order picking operations using paper picklists, RF scanners, or mobile devices; accurately pick and stage a high volume of e-commerce and B2B orders while maintaining target pick rates and minimizing mis-picks.
  • Pack orders to meet carrier requirements and brand presentation standards, ensuring adequate protection, correct documentation, and efficient use of packaging materials to control costs and reduce damage in transit.
  • Operate shipping software and carrier integrations (UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL, regional LTL carriers), generate shipping labels and manifests, reconcile carrier invoices, and schedule pickups to meet promised delivery windows.
  • Perform receiving activities including inspection of incoming shipments, quality checks, labeling, and put-away to correct bin locations in the warehouse management system (WMS) to preserve inventory accuracy.
  • Execute cycle counts and physical inventory audits, investigate discrepancies, reconcile system balances, and implement corrective actions to maintain inventory accuracy targets (e.g., 98–99%).
  • Stage and palletize outbound freight according to load plans and carrier requirements, using forklifts, pallet jacks, and conveyor systems safely and efficiently to maximize dock throughput.
  • Process returns and reverse logistics, assess returned goods for resale or disposition, update inventory records, and coordinate credit or replacement order workflows with customer service teams.
  • Monitor daily KPIs such as orders shipped, order accuracy, on-time shipping percentage, picking errors, returns rate, and labor productivity; escalate trends and support improvement initiatives.
  • Enforce packing quality control checkpoints and conduct random order audits to validate correct sku, quantities, and packaging, strongly focusing on reducing customer complaints and re-ships.
  • Coordinate with customer service to resolve shipments flagged for shortage, damage, or delay; provide timely status updates and evidence (photos, shipping documents) to expedite customer resolutions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date product locations, slotting configuration, and bin labeling to reduce travel time for pickers and improve order throughput.
  • Execute hazardous materials (HAZMAT) and restricted item handling per carrier and regulatory guidelines when applicable, including proper documentation and packaging.
  • Support seasonal and promotional surges by scaling operations—reassigning team members, adding pick/pack stations, and adjusting shift schedules to maintain service levels.
  • Train new hires on order fulfillment best practices, WMS procedures, safety protocols, and quality standards; develop and document SOPs to ensure consistent execution.
  • Implement continuous improvement and lean initiatives (5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping) to reduce waste, improve cycle times, and increase warehouse efficiency and capacity.
  • Prepare and maintain shipping and customs documentation for international orders, coordinating with freight forwarders and customs brokers to avoid delays at borders.
  • Verify and reconcile B2B pallet loads versus order manifests, ensuring accurate invoicing and fulfillment of distribution or retail store shipments.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace; comply with OSHA and company safety policies and report hazards or near-miss incidents promptly.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve WMS and scanning exceptions—missing barcodes, mis-labeled SKUs, or inventory holds—by partnering with inventory control and IT teams to minimize downtime.
  • Execute cross-docking and expedited fulfillment requests for priority orders, ensuring same-day or next-day processing when required by service agreements.
  • Manage packing material inventory and reorder thresholds, negotiating with vendors where applicable to balance cost, sustainability, and protection needs.
  • Coordinate with procurement and supply planning to prioritize replenishment of fast-moving SKUs and reduce stockouts that impact on-time fulfillment.
  • Prepare daily operational reports for management reviewing throughput, error rates, carrier performance, and labor utilization; recommend tactical adjustments based on data.
  • Participate in emergency response and contingency planning for disruptions (weather, carrier outages, system downtime) to maintain continuity of order fulfillment operations.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc reporting, generate order performance dashboards (Excel, Google Sheets, or BI tools), and provide data used for capacity planning and shift staffing decisions.
  • Contribute to the organization's process documentation and operational playbooks to standardize fulfillment workflows across shifts and locations.
  • Collaborate with engineering, IT, and operations teams on WMS configuration changes, barcode schema updates, and hardware refresh projects to improve scanning reliability.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects such as e-commerce platform integrations, new warehouse openings, and returns program redesigns, representing fulfillment operations.
  • Assist quality assurance and product teams with damage investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions to reduce product defects reaching customers.
  • Test and validate new packing materials, automation equipment, and carrier services during pilot programs to measure cost, speed, and customer impact.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or GED; equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience considered.
