Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Lead the design, configuration, and deployment of PLC, RTU, and DCS logic and HMI screens (Siemens, Rockwell/AllenβBradley, Schneider, Honeywell) ensuring code quality, maintainability, and compliance with control standards and naming conventions.
- Architect and implement SCADA solutions (eg. Ignition, Wonderware, GE iFix, ClearSCADA) including tag/database modeling, alarming, historical trending, visualization, and operator workflows to meet functional and reliability requirements.
- Integrate data historians (OSIsoft PI, AVEVA, Historian) and design data collection strategies to ensure accurate, timely OT data for analytics, reporting, and process optimization.
- Configure and validate industrial communications and protocols (OPC UA/DA, Modbus RTU/TCP, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, DNP3, BACnet) across PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, and enterprise systems to guarantee reliable interoperability.
- Plan, deploy and manage industrial network segmentation, VLANs, and firewall policies in collaboration with IT to create secure OT zones and protect control networks from lateral threats.
- Implement secure remote access methods for OT support and vendor connectivity (VPN, jump hosts, bastion services) following change control and access governance processes.
- Perform FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) and commissioning activities for control systems, ensuring acceptance criteria, traceability, and signed test records.
- Create and manage detailed integration test plans, functional test procedures, and validation protocols; run system integration tests and coordinate remediation for defects and non-conformances.
- Develop and maintain configuration management, version control and deployment pipelines for PLC/HMI/SCADA code, including backups, patching schedules and roll-back plans.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for OT incidents and outages; produce incident reports, lessons learned and preventive action plans to improve system resiliency.
- Serve as the technical interface to third-party vendors and system integrators; evaluate vendor deliverables, perform technical reviews, and ensure contractual scope and technical acceptance.
- Translate operational requirements and P&ID/loop diagrams into executable control strategies and implement with control engineers and programmers.
- Define and implement OT cybersecurity controls in accordance with IEC 62443, NIST SP 800β82 and enterprise security policies, including network segmentation, application whitelisting, asset inventory and vulnerability remediation workflows.
- Design and deploy edge computing devices and gateway architectures for IIoT data ingestion, local analytics, and secure cloud uplink (Azure IoT Edge, AWS Greengrass, MQTT brokers).
- Implement data normalization, tag mapping and semantic modeling to enable consistent OT-to-IT data flows for MES, ERP, CMMS and analytics platforms.
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation: network diagrams, control narratives, wiring schematics, HMI screen inventories, and O&M manuals to support operations and audits.
- Provide on-site and remote commissioning support, including hands-on wiring checks, signal validation, loop testing, and tuning of control loops to meet performance KPIs.
- Develop and deliver training and knowledge transfer sessions for operations, maintenance and engineering teams on new control systems, HMIs, and safe operating procedures.
- Participate in change management and engineering change requests (ECR/ECO) for OT assets; evaluate risk, plan rollouts, and coordinate down-time windows with operations.
- Implement and maintain monitoring and observability for OT health (device telemetry, alarms, availability dashboards) and escalate proactively to minimize unplanned downtime.
- Support program delivery activities including scoping, technical estimation, resource planning, and progress reporting for OT integration projects across multiple sites.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)
- PLC programming and ladder/structured text experience (Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000/RSLogix, Schneider EcoStruxure, ABB) with a proven track record deploying PLC code in production environments.
- SCADA/HMI development and administration (Inductive Automation Ignition, Wonderware InTouch, GE iFix, Schneider Vijeo, ClearSCADA) including alarming best practices and operator workflow design.
- Industrial protocols and integration: OPC UA/DA, Modbus RTU/TCP, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, DNP3, BACnet β ability to configure protocol gateways and troubleshoot comms.

Education & Experience
Educational Background
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Instrumentation, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering or related technical field β or equivalent hands-on experience in industrial automation and controls.
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's in Automation, Mechatronics, Control Systems or Computer Engineering.
- Certifications such as GICSP (Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional), ISA/IEC 62443 Foundation, Certified Automation Professional (CAP), or vendor-specific certifications (Siemens, Rockwell) are a plus.
